Source: The Daily Beast
Trumps one-time chief strategist and current frenemy may have been tight-lipped with Congress. He wont be that way with the special counsel.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon broke some bad news to House investigators Tuesday, announcing that the White House had invoked executive privilege to keep him from answering many of their questions.
But executive privilegethe presidents right to keep certain information from the public so he can have frank conversations with aideswill not keep Steve Bannon from sharing information with special counsel Robert Muellers team, according to a person familiar with the situation. Mueller will hear everything Bannon has to say, said the source, who is familiar with Bannons thinking.
During a closed-door hearing before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, Bannon reportedly told lawmakers that President Donald Trump has invoked broad executive privilege for the purposes of congressional inquiries. Because of that, Bannon refused to answer committee members questions about what happened during the presidential transition and in the White House.
This sweeping understanding of privilege will not effect what Bannon tells Muellers team, according to our source. (To be sure, Bannon isnt known for being predictable, and its possible his team may still look for ways to dodge Muellers queries.)

(14,975 posts)so if bannon can get brietbart and the good graces of the mercers and other billionaires back, he could suddenly go fifth amendment.
The simple fact that muehler wants him before a grand jury means he isn't a target. Of course, it could be part of a deal, and if he goes back on it muehler might still have charges in waiting.
But don't rule out a fix here. Bannon has lost everything, and could still get it all back.

(22,074 posts)Robert Mueller is many steps ahead of Trump and his Treasonous Tribe. Months ago, I'm certain he knew that Trump would invoke Executive Privilege sooner or later. The subpoena sends the message to both Bannon and Trump that they will have to testify under oath. Anyone who invokes their Fifth Amendment rights will be committing political suicide.
For some time, I've had the feeling-- without any evidence-- that Bannon is actually in the clear regarding the Russians. There hasn't been any indication that he had meetings or conversations with any of the foreigners that were involved with Trump. So, even though he was the campaign's manager/CEO, I think it's possible that he wasn't involved in the collusion/conspiracy. This doesn't mean that he doesn't have a story to tell, of course.

(14,975 posts)he is running for his life. Pleading the fifth will have exactly zip to do with his future.
Who could have predicted a story would come out against a sitting unpopular president that he had a paid affair with a former porn star for a year, then paid her to shut up about it - all with no negative reaction whatsoever.
Taking the fifth? That will be like having black coffee with breakfast by the time this is over.

(22,074 posts)You are also probably headed in the right direction. Your last sentence makes this clear.
I'm still a half mile or so behind you. I'll catch up.
However, my comment about the Fish Amendment related more to Trump than Bannon. Bannon will do what he has to to save his own ass. By forcing Bannon to testify to the Grand Jury, Mr. Mueller removes any ability for Trump to interfere with the investigation; Bannon must testify truthfully.
Bit by bit, Trump is being isolated by the investigation.

(11,258 posts)I assume Bannon knows everything, so if he's willing to tell all that should be the whole ballgame. No?

(25,111 posts)All this hype about his testimony to me is pure theatrics. I do not see racist Bannon turning on the t-rump nor his family and cronies.

(37,417 posts)movement best by doing this. They really should not need any help from the Russians. The people who need help from the Russians are the republicans who can't govern, but just want the power.
