Vice President Mike Pence is launching a cross-country campaign tour aimed at boosting Republicans who are confronting an increasingly perilous 2018 midterm election.
Pence is slated to take over a dozen political trips through April, most of them to assist House Republicans who are fighting to keep control of the chamber.
The schedule has taken shape following a meeting earlier this month between President Donald Trump and congressional leaders at Camp David. During the sit-down, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy gave a sobering presentation on the House landscape and made a broad ask for help from the administration.
Pences push for House Republicans, according to an administration official briefed on the plans, will begin on Feb. 2, when he campaigns on behalf of Pennsylvania special election hopeful Rick Saccone.

(12,601 posts)He'll find some bullshit "official" reason to go somewhere--maybe to Pittsburgh to hand out the "Exceptional Education Award"--and then go directly from there to a rally or fundraiser or both.
He can carry his political staff and RNC people, etc., on Air Force Two by paying only the cost of an airline ticket for each person. And probably a coach seat, at that.
Same goes for Trump and Air Force One.

(7,136 posts)I work at a rather large government agency. We have an auditorium that seats around 300 people. A few months ago, Pence was scheduled to address our agency. An email went out to everyone a couple of days in advance informing us of this fact and inviting everyone to the auditorium to come listen to him - but get to the event early, as seats will disappear fast! Wouldnt want anyone to be disappointed!
The big day comes. At 5 minutes before Pences expected arrival, a plaintive-sounding email goes out: there is still plenty of room in the auditorium! Come one, come all, Lets give him a warm welcome!
A colleague of mine said what the hell, Ill go to hear the VP speak, adding theres a chance hell be president if Trumps impeached. He came back and told me that the auditorium was not even half full. The Vice President of the United States drew, by his reckoning, about 120 -130 people. There were so few people there that Pence had ample time to shake everyones hand. My colleague said it was quasi-embarrassing.
It was at that moment that I started to have hope again for our country.
