Huggies' owner Kimberly-Clark to slash 5,000 jobs, close 10 factories

Source: CNBC

19 Mins Ago | 00:43

Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies diapers and Kleenex tissues, on Tuesday announced it will cut about 13 percent of its workforce globally, or at least 5,000 jobs, in a bid to cut costs as sales wane.

The company plans to shutter or sell 10 of its 91 production factories worldwide. In all, it is anticipating more than $2 billion in cost cuts by 2021.

For years, consumer companies have enjoyed what has been widely considered to be overly optimistic stock prices. Now, the companies are grappling with the reality of a new landscape.

These companies must find growth to match up with investors' expectations, but are faced with changing shopping habits and competitive pressures.

But wouldn't this company benefit from sales anywhere since they are sold in both ?

It did mention some amazon brand but i can't see that hurting them much at this point.

Like, why would sales of tissues go down ? I guess with diapers i can ser people turning to non disposable or organic and other things but the article didn't mention any of this.

They showed a one-percent sales increase in 4Q17 and a "slight" increase in FY17. In the face of less-expensive store brands for everything they make, that's not a bad performance...but they probably want five percent, and without inventing a Whole New Line of Products No Home Is Complete Without, that won't happen because how many rolls of toilet paper, diapers and tampons does a family really need?
