EXCLUSIVE: Tammy Duckworth is pregnant; will be 1st senator to give birth

Source: Chicago Sun-Times

WASHINGTON — In the history of the nation, only 10 members of Congress have given birth while in office and Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., is one of them.

Soon Duckworth will be in a class by herself.

Duckworth told me she is expecting her second child, another girl, in late April, a few weeks after she turns 50. The birth will make Duckworth the nation’s first senator to have a baby while serving in the chamber.

The other congressional births have all come while the female lawmakers were serving in the House.

Hope it is a healthy pregnancy and the developing fetus doesn't get too stressed by being exposed to all the negative energy in Congress....

Will be interesting to see how the voters in her state respond....I think its great....

She's certainly not unable to cut someone down to size, like the person who was testifying about misuse of status of "service related disability"....

What's even more interesting is that this guy was later convinced of murder! Life +16 years.

Being a Senator is exhausting. Having a newborn is exhausting. And having a newborn at 50 must be inconceivably exhausting.

She's hardcore, and certainly not setting aside any "executive time" to watch hours worth of Fox News in a bathrobe.

After having her Black Hawk shot out from underneath her, losing her legs and almost her arm and life, Congress, the GOP and a new baby should be doable for her.

If she is nursing, she will bring the baby to work?
And she will be sleep deprived for awhile.
Hopefully she has a supportive husband and good childcare help.

Nothing like perimenopause and an infant at the same time.

The Fourth Procedure, by Stanley Pottinger. It's only available through OpenLibrary now insofar as an ebook, and right now it's on the waiting list. Decent read... even if it does seem to argue at some points for ultrasound being used to influence decisions.

I think this is from her US Senate swearing in. (Yup!)

"Mommy! Put me down!"

Here's another of the event. Uncle Joe in attendance. Abigail playing peek-a-boo with photographer.
