Exclusive: Trump asked Rosenstein if he was 'on my team'
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein visited the White House in December seeking President Donald Trump's help. The top Justice Department official in the Russia investigation wanted Trump's support in fighting off document demands from House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes.
But the President had other priorities ahead of a key appearance by Rosenstein on the Hill, according to sources familiar with the meeting. Trump wanted to know where the special counsel's Russia investigation was heading. And he wanted to know whether Rosenstein was "on my team."
The episode is the latest to come to light portraying a President whose inquiries sometimes cross a line that presidents traditionally have tried to avoid when dealing with the Justice Department, for which a measure of independence is key. The exchange could raise further questions about whether Trump was seeking to interfere in the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is looking into potential collusion by the Trump campaign with Russia and obstruction of justice by the White House.
At the December meeting, the deputy attorney general appeared surprised by the President's questions, the sources said. He demurred on the direction of the Russia investigation, which Rosenstein has ultimate authority over now that his boss, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has recused himself. And he responded awkwardly to the President's "team" request, the sources said.

(37,748 posts)Here's the red meat (I think). From the article...
Near the top we have this:
"And he (Trump) wanted to know whether Rosenstein was "on my team."'
But this is followed later by:
"At the hearing, Rosenstein repeatedly declined to say whether Trump had ever asked him about the Russia Investigation. But he testified that he never received any "improper orders" from Trump and denied that anyone ever asked him to pledge his loyalty..."
Putting aside (what will become) the inevitable excuse of "'are you on my team' could meaning ANYTHING!!!" it seems Rosenstein denied Trump asking for loyalty when in fact, he did.
Meaning Rosenstein lied.
On edit for clarity: the hearing was AFTER the meeting with Trump.
More on edit: I cannot locate whether the December meeting was under oath or not. If it was, this could explode into perjury territory. If not, it's still a lie.

(6,709 posts)That said, lying to Congress is a crime, under oath or not. Whether it will be prosecuted is another question.

(43,530 posts)"on my team" in my mind is not the same as asking for an oath of loyalty, or is a weaker form of loyalty.
Loyalty is a direct form of obeisance, doing what the boss says.
On my team is the same side, looking out for best interests.
Or that's the way I see it, and surely it would be explained away in a similar manner.

Trump needs to be impeached. He does not understand the role of the president or the constitutional structure of our government, neither in word nor in spirit.
This is shameful!

It seems very strange that the Russian head of their Spy network visits the CIA director and the same day Trump announces he will not carry out the sanctions request passed by Congress

(4,341 posts)one is to preserve, and enhance his fortune by paying off debts using tax payers money, second is to avoid having Putin dispose of him. Who knows how much crap Putin has on him, how much money he owes the Russian mafia.
He is not there to govern, he already accomplished his first goal, to inflate his ego by becoming President of the United States, now "the destroyer" is moving to give the country to the Russians, and Putin did a very good job of incriminating many republicans who now help the man-child carry Putin's orders.
That is why history is so important to read, and I don't mean Napoleon Bonaparte, etc., which should also be read, I mean contemporary history. Look at countries like Venezuela where the theater that is being played today in the USA already played, it is a play in many acts, and their agenda is presented little by little without many people noticing it or believing that is being played, and suddenly...wham! the job is done, people are in lines trying to buy some food (Supermarkets have limited supplies), the Russians have entered the country with the pretext of bringing medical and other technology through some called "exchange", but in reality the idea is to infiltrate, and when people finally wake up, the task of getting the country back to what Obama left, which was pretty good considering the mess GW left, now that task has become monumental, the military has become corrupted and has also been infiltrated, top ranks have been compromised, the whole system is in total chaos, the man-child has become the supreme leader. IT CAN HAPPEN HERE! - THIS IS NO JOKE OR FANTASY PLAY, IT IS HAPPENING!

(3,515 posts)It is not a joke.
There is a system here. The Russians are seeking control of fossil fuels and countries in which fossil fuels are located in my opinion. Maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but not much. They see that as the secret to America's dominance in the world, and have figured out that he who controls the fuel controls the world. Just my personal conspiracy theory.

(4,341 posts)Did he just throw that answer back at the man-child without some analysis of the question? As a lawyer that he is, one would expect him to analyze the questions just presented to him by the man-child, and not answer so fast. Knowing how conniving the man-child is one would expect a man of Rosenstein's position to be more alert and ready.
How about "What do you mean by 'your team', sir?" "Did you mean the country as a team?" "Can you please be more specific about your question?"
