G7 ministers criticise US tariffs and warn of trade war

US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has faced sharp criticism from angry finance ministers of other G7 nations over America's imposition of new tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.
At a heated meeting in the Canadian resort of Whistler, the EU and Canada threatened to retaliate.
France's Bruno Le Maire warned a trade war could begin in "a few days".

There was no joint statement at the end of the meeting, which the BBC's North America correspondent Chris Buckler says is a clear sign of discord.

(7,550 posts)He's not accustomed to negotiating with people who can and will say 'forget you' and walk away from the table. He only knows how to threaten and intimidate. Art of the Deal should have been titled Threats, Intimidation and Verbal Abuse - How to Get What You Want Using Other People's Money. His idea of negotiating is sending Mikey the Fixer to your house to threaten your family and hire ex-Mossad to dig through your garbage.
It's not enough just to wait him out...the damage will be done. This stain needs to be removed before it sets.
