Kenneth Starr on the parallels between the Lewinsky scandal and the Russia investigation

Source: CBS News

Kenneth Starr, former independent counsel in the Clinton-era Whitewater investigation, says there's "no question" there are parallels between special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation and Starr's probe that uncovered the Monica Lewinsky scandal and rocked Bill Clinton's presidency.

"Any time a president is under attack, the president or at least the president's partisans and supporters will likely go on the attack," Starr told CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday. "There was accountability. Whatever people think of the investigation during the Monica Lewinsky phase, the president had to eventually concede that he had not conducted himself as he should -- in a very serious manner -- when he was under oath."

Starr called Mueller's investigation a "serious case" but warned Mr. Trump against sitting down with the special counsel's team for an interview as part of their probe. He said that "caution is the rule of thumb here."

"You never want your client, unless you have an extraordinarily high level of confidence, to be exposed in this way," said Starr.

Starr also said that firing Mueller would not constitute obstruction, but would be a very serious political matter.

AND, finally, let me give a big hearty fuck you to Ken Starr..... there's quite a difference between lying about a blow job and lying about colluding with a foreign power which is trying to undermine the government of the United States. Furthermore, it was a hell of a stretch to morph an investigation into banking laws into one which concerned a private matter between consenting adults. Robert Mueller has stayed exactly on track with what he has been tasked to investigate.

3. Starr is another lawyer who just said Trump is too stupid to testify without lying.

Notice he limits his definition of obstruction to the single act of firing Mueller (which hasn't happened), avoiding the mass of evidence that is already present which shows that beginning with firing Comey, Trump has acted over and over again in ways that indicate a criminal intent to derail the investigation against him.

Pursuing Clinton was Starr's 15 minutes of fame, and it sounds like he's trying to ease into the spotlight again, just like Rudi has post-911.

6. Why repeat Lying Republican Starr?

Starr is a liar and a partisan hack who dug for years to find dirt on a president he wished to punish for political reasons.

Nothing Starr says should be taken seriously.

No one should be repeating a single word Starr says.

If CBS wants to amplify this liar, let them. But don’t post this headline and article here. Change the headline to something more truthful and post it in Editorials.

Better headline “Clinton Whitewater investigator impugns investigation into biggest scandal in American history”

Or “Republican who investigated a Democrat for 6 years has a problem with Republican investigating a Republican for 1”

began investigating anything else including Vince Foster "murder" and Lewinski. He was and is an ass clown. And while we are at it, Manafort, so fa,r should consider himself lucky as opposed to Susan McDougal who spent months in jail for refusing to answer Starr's questions.

But can we stop calling the Lewinsky thing a "matter between two consenting adults"?? Bill was in the highest office at the time. And he still fails to apologize for what he did. The only way the MeToo movement gains steam is if we call out the predators for who they are, regardless of political affiliation.
