Kamala Harris Calls On Kirstjen Nielsen To Resign Over Family Separation Stance

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) called on Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to resign on Monday, citing her track record of enforcing President Donald Trump's "anti-immigration agenda" and leading the "failed response" to the devastation in Puerto Rico.
Harris also cited a lack of transparency within the department and Nielsen's routine failure "to provide complete answers to questions from me and my colleagues" on the Homeland Security Committee.
Nielsen has come under increased scrutiny in recent days for her response to media reports on the conditions at immigration processing centers along the U.S.-Mexico border. Under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, border security agents have been given authority to arrest and criminally charge anyone who crosses the border illegally, resulting in thousands of children being separated from their parents.
On Sunday, Nielsen tweeted that the U.S. does not have a family separation policy, only to walk it back Monday by claiming the U.S. "will not apologize" for ripping families apart in order to enforce laws. She followed President Donald Trump's rhetoric, calling on Congress to "change the laws" of immigration and "close the loopholes."

Always deny

That pretty much covers it.

(11,885 posts)But we know the two Texas cowards Cornyn and Cruz won't for fear of trump. Allowing child abuse speaks volumes on these two , and both should be shamed out of office for doing nothing. Thank You Senator Harris for once again standing up for what's right.

(6,560 posts)She is not married and does not have children. No wonder she can support the orange one and his policies on other people's kids. She has no personal experience with empathy that relates to having her own children. I find her to be a despicable POS, so she fits right in with the rest of this administration.

(6,560 posts)public school, volunteer work with children, and worked with projects for children. My point was not clearly stated and I apologize for that. Watching her (Kirstjen Nielsen) made me see red. She was such a compassionless automaton in dealing with separation of children and their families that it boggles my mind. I won't say I haven't encountered the lack of compassion before and it happens to be in my trumpster sister who has 4 children. She and I were raised in the same house by the same parents and our outlooks are totally different. My sister is fully in favor of separation of families and just says, "They knew what they were getting into when they crossed the border illegally." So you are right, having children does not ensure empathy. Hope this gives some perspective to my comment. Sorry I did not make myself clear.

(89,289 posts)she would be a disgusting cold piece of shit even if she were to have kids.
So is it your assertion that people who don't have kids are less likely to be capable of empathy where kids are concerned? My wife and I don't have (and don't want) kids, but we both abhor what Trump and his cronies are doing to these families. Empathy has nothing to do with whether or not you have kids, and everything to do with the ability to imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's situation.

(6,560 posts)I have poured my love for kids into teaching, volunteer work, and special programs for kids. My point is that she does not have experience or a moral compass to feel compassion for these children. Perhaps the most important thing is her lack of moral compass. Sorry that you thought I was criticizing you, however if that was the point, I would also be criticizing myself. Perhaps I did not express myself as well as I might, but it is hard to do when you are working through a fog of disbelief and anger.

(160,684 posts)It was shocking hearing her as she gibbered her hate speech so viciously, her disrespect for the human race flying off her nasty face, along with sneers, glares, haughtiness, accusatory tone, and implication that the administration is over us all, and we'd better not test them.
I have never seen such a snarling performance from any administration official in my entire life, never would have expected anyone would be this hate-filled during public remarks.
Exactly like listening to someone either from the Third Reich, or a futuristic movie concerning a lethal fascist state.
