Manafort in Solitary Confinement to Protect Against Violent Street Cred Attack, Trumps Ex-Lawyer Says
by Aidan McLaughlin | 5:49 pm, June 19th, 2018
Paul Manafort has been put in solitary confinement according to John Dowd, his friend and President Donald Trumps former lawyer.
Trumps jowly ex-attorney on the Russia investigation told Fox News that after Manaforts $10 million bail was revoked, he was put in solitary confinement for his own safety from the general prison population.
The warden is concerned that someone would violently attack Paul just for street cred, Dowd added. He also said Manaforts imprisonment was an outrageous violation of his civil liberties.
They make all prisoners return to their cells whenever Paul needs to leave his cell, Dowd added.

Unless they are all moved into witness protection I don't think Manafort will say anything.

(13,527 posts)hair care products are permitted in his VIP suite -
But also, I do truly wonder, would the average person, doing time or not, have a clue who this traitor even is?!? I guess words out by now in there, but not everyone is following this storyline like we are!!
So many quezzztions this evening!!!

(17,217 posts)I guess they have news in prisons, and any white collar crims will surely know who he is. I hope he knows that he may very well be looking at a preview of however many years he has remaining.

(16,104 posts)Manafort did this to himself believing he was above the law with his wealth and power.
He should have the least possible rights and privileges allowable.
Contempt should be paid back with same in kind.

(3,289 posts)I read that as Dowd explaining the warden's reasoning for putting Manafort in solitary, and then adding his (Dowd's) own opinion on Manafort being imprisoned. It's a very poorly written sentence. It seems editors aren't a thing anymore, judging by how many times I see stuff like this in the press.

(90,803 posts)the riskier the task, the more impressive the action, the greater the cred.
If they're really concerned they wouldn't raise the stakes, thereby raising the gain.
But in a more reality based world - I doubt anyone currently serving time with Manafort finds him worth the effort.
Saying you fear for your client's life is often a means to get them out of prison or get some other arrangement.
Sometimes it is true - say, for instance, are they housing any Russian mobsters?
Any guards connected to the Russian mob?
Warden worried about the other prisoners but what about the COs?
Dick Wolf! Calling Dick Wolf!

(109,025 posts)the real concern -- that his Russian co-conspirators might arrange for him to die there.
But I still had fun with it.

Good journalists paint a word-picture for their readers in addition to telling us Who, What, Where, When, and How.

(91,042 posts)Linda has since passed away, but was possibly the oldest living Muscular Dystrophy patient in the country -- and a quadriplegic with a permanent trache and portable oxygen tank. I remember that one journalist described her testimony at a heated public meeting thus "...pausing a moment to suck air..." Well, yes, that was how she had to live her life, and testimony to her enduring determination and vitality. The picture was indelible.

with a speech disability, and she has had news stories written about her that included relevant word-pictures. Next Sunday, she will be part of the Nancy Pelosi contingent of the Pride parade in San Francisco, and she will in fact be "tooling down the street in a wheelchair" with a backpack covered in political buttons and wearing a Pelosi rainbow sweatband around her wrist!

(2,896 posts)miniature rainbow flag" is painting a vivid word-picture that is most likely relevant to the story, and it isn't intended as a negative comment on someone's personal appearance. "Jowly" is irrelevant to this story and sticks out. There is no other similar descriptive language in the brief article, so the reporter is failing at painting a word-picture if that was the intent. I think it actually is more illuminating in regard to what the skinny, 20-something, recent university graduate (I looked him up) who wrote the description finds compelling about the 77-year-old Dowd. (Should I mention the reporter appears to have a somewhat receding chin?) If Dowd is one of the Vulgar Talking Yam-loving Neanderthals who (for example) trash certain women for being fat, while being overweight themselves, then "portly" or "jowly" could be relevant in revealing the hypocrisy... but otherwise it just contributes to looks-ism, fat shaming and ageism.
Things people choose to do to themselves are fair game: like spraying themselves orange, or wearing absurdly long ties, or dyeing and arranging what remains of their hair in ludicrous and garish ways. A homeless person being unshaven and rumpled doesn't seem very newsworthy, but those are relevant details when describing someone like Bannon, since it's such a departure from the norm for WH advisors.
This isn't to defend Dowd... but to defend others who are only guilty of being jowly. It's not a neutral descriptor.

All this policy will do - is highlight the opportunities when he is available - to the population.
He would have been better off, doing his time like everyone else, learning how to fight or take an ass-whipping or two, or three.
Because if he is convicted - he cannot live his life in solitary confinement - he will go crazy.
And guess what, even in solitary, if someone wants you, you will not be safe.
My thoughts.

(50,601 posts)Let's discuss what Paul Manafort did to the civil liberties of every person in the world by helping to install Donald Trump in the White House.
Tell ya what, since you're so worried about him: I'll gladly trade Donald Trump's head on a platter for Paul Manafort's freedom.

(23,169 posts)I hope they continue to keep Manafort healthy. It would be way too easy for 45 and his gang of ne'er-do-well criminals to arrange for someone to kill Manafort in prison, especially the way 45 throws cash around to get his way.
