Trump Suggests Negative Media Coverage of The North Korea Summit is 'Almost Treasonous'
Source: Mediaite
In an exclusive interview set to air Saturday night on TBN, former Arkansas governor and 2016 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee sat down with President Donald Trump.
In what will likely be a wide-ranging interview, part of the conversation was focused on Trumps recent summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, which Trump insists was widely successful.

After telling Huckabee he and the North Korean dictator came to a wonderful agreement, Trump took the opportunity to blast fake news.
Its a shame that the fake news covers it the way they do, Trump told Huckabee. Honestly, its really, its almost treasonous you want to know the truth.

(57,775 posts)I won't be watching, so I'll find out later myself. I can't tell from the text.
Anyway, the phrase "you want to know the truth" can be thought of as a parenthetical phrase, as:
If you want to know the truth, it's almost treasonous {the way the networks do so and so}.
or
Its almost treasonous {that} you want to know the truth.
Which is far more serious.
We'll diagram that sentence when we get to it.

(7,540 posts)I'm sure (heavy eye-roll) he meant it with the word "if" which is common city-talk and sometimes left out when speaking off the cuff. I think an actual transcript of what he meant would put a comma to set it off.
"It's almost treasonous, you wanna know the truth."
A reversal of "You want to know the truth: it's almost treasonous."
But isn't it a Freudian thing when people say what they actually mean instead of what they intend to say?
I know this is pedantic and nit-picking, but I love words. Plus it's revealing that his sentence can be parsed that he thinks it's treasonous when {anyone} wants to know the truth when it involves anything he does.

(9,274 posts)No, Champ. What's treasonous is colluding with a foreign country to subvert the will of the American voters, then repaying that country by advancing its agenda to destroy the alliances, institutions, and world standing of the United States.
