Article titleTrump claims immigration laws are 'a mockery,' seeks to deprive migrants of due process
Source: Washington Post
In a pair of morning tweets, President Trump described immigrants as invaders and wrote that U.S. immigration laws must be changed to take away trial rights from undocumented migrants.
"We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country," Trump wrote. "When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents..."
Trump's tweets came ahead of a crucial vote in the House this week on GOP immigration legislation.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

(8,200 posts)The Republican Party is morally bankrupt. They continue to support a president that congratulates the likes of Putin, a murderous monster, Kim Jong Un who imprisoned thousands and kills his relatives, he congratulated Erdogan for winning the election and turning the presidency into a dictatorship. He praised Duterte on his "unbelievable job on the drug problem" by murdering thousands, just as he did for Xi Jingping who cemented his dictatorship over the Communist Party. He has no respect for human rights and said " I would bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding" to the sounds of deafening praise for his constituency. Just last April he congratulated Egyptian President el-Sisi, a military dictator's suppression of dissent as "a fantastic job." On the national scene he has attacked the press for telling the truth by screaming that it is "fake news." He is a dedicated misogynist and cut off funding of the UN Population Fund for women with false claims. This policy has been extended to every health care agency. I could go on for several more pages, but this will suffice. His mistreatment of immigrates is so extensive as to deny coverage since it is multiplied daily.
I really have to conclude that if the citizens as so apathetic that they are not enraged enough to show up and vote everyone of these enemies of the Constitution out of office then the nation is in fatal peril, It will be heading for a Authoritarian government and a congress whose sole function will be to codify the dictates of the Authoritarian president and his oligarchs. Every agency of the government will be under the absolute control of the president and his billionaire cabinet of cronies. The separation of powers will be history. The Republican Party is in sight of achieving what they have striven for since the presidency of Reagan.

(11,885 posts)Cowards like these are in charge, and distorting laws and openly abusing people and children on purpose to hurt them with for political gain, and lying to the American people, and intentionally trying to keep them from their parents. Make that an international disgrace we have a monster as president. The American people won't forget this at their trial and sentencing hearing.

(12,603 posts)to remove him from office." It helps keep me grounded in the reality of the present moment. Even if we Blue Wave both houses of Congress in November, we might be able to impeach, but absent a massive infusion of morality into Republican senators, the votes just aren't there to convict in the Senate.
Despite these constant attacks on our values, morals, and laws, Trump's base will not budge in its loyalty. Unless they change their minds -- which will not happen -- we're stuck with Donnie Two Scoops for the rest of this term and most likely the entirety of the next. Eight years of my life wasted, as I watch a narcissistic megalomaniacal sociopath destroy in months that for which American men and women (including me) have fought and died over centuries, both on battlefields near and away, as well as on the streets and in the Congress and the courts. Day by day he inches us toward the goal that Putin has installed him to achieve -- the isolation and dissolution of the United States as a world power and society which is based on the rule of law.
And the GOP sits there, quietly, afraid of him, and afraid of his almighty "base."
"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldnt lose voters," remember? That's what he said when he was just a candidate. Now he believes he could literally do anything -- including starting a nuclear war -- and suffer absolutely no consequences. I'm starting to believe that's true, and I hate that defeatist attitude. Time to go drive around and look at children at play; they are the ones we're fighting for.
When I hear him questioning due process, I hear him violating his Oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution. Due process is what separates us from dictatorships where one person has absolute power over who lives and who dies.
IQ45 must be stopped at every turn. I know constant outrage is exhausting, but the moment we give in to even one of his obscene actions -- the moment we accept the unacceptable -- is when he wins and the world loses.

(12,603 posts)Holding either the House or the Senate prevents him from passing destructive legislation. Holding the Senate prevents him from appointing ideologue judges and entering into treaties that only benefit himself and his cronies -- mostly himself.
If we hold both houses it means we can build a wall around him and isolate him from the rest of the world and country. We can throw up every roadblock possible to stop or at least slow down his insane remake of the United States to reflect his sick worldview. Meanwhile, citizens can work to keep him in check with protests, legal challenges, and voting out every Republican who holds an office -- even a school board member.
Let him tweet away, blame the Democrats for his failures, blame the fake news for his failures, blame everyone else for his failures but himself. Let him direct his frustrations at individuals for his childish name-calling -- we'll wear it as a badge of honor, that we have moved into a house in his mind where we live only to torment him.
"We are going to make Trump's life a living Hell" should be the Democratic Party's unofficial slogan. Meanwhile, we continue to build the Party on traditional Democratic values: equality of opportunity, economic success for all and not the privileged few, healthcare, protecting and expanding Social Security and Medicare, and preserving our nation's clean air, water, and national treasures. And true patriotism, which is the love of country above party.

(8,200 posts)There is no guarantee that the Democrats will be able to retake the Senate and House. I have and continue to work on getting the younger people motivated to get to the polls. I am hoping that the MSD young people can awaken their generation to the threat that this administration poses for their future.

It would be our own version of the Arab Spring of 2011, except we'd be using REI tents on the Mall, and drinking genuine spring water from the mountains of Colorado.

(57,756 posts)Mark today on your calendar as the day POTUS called for doing away with due process in immigration procedings. No judges, just gunslingers snatching people and disappearing them over the border or into internment camps. No appeal (and maybe no records) if they snatch your child.

(12,603 posts)Of course, their skin was the same color as ours. Those with a different color ended up in internment camps in the desert, notwithstanding that most of them had been American citizens for several generation. For example, George Takei's grandfather immigrated from Japan, and his children and grandchildren (Takei included) were born in this country and were therefore full-fledged American citizens.
But those of us who read already know that. And those of us who feel know how wrong that action was, and have resolved it not be repeated under this president.
