Poll: 66% Of Voters Oppose Trump DOJ's Move To Gut Patient Protections

Source: Forbes

By a 2-to-1 margin, U.S. voters disapprove of the U.S. Justice Department’s decision to support a lawsuit that would eliminate popular protections for patients with preexisting conditions under the Affordable Care Act, a new poll shows.

The survey of likely voters by Hart Research Associates is another sign of mounting political problems for Republicans heading into the November mid-term elections, putting GOP candidates on the defensive for the Trump DOJ’s decision not to defend one of the most popular features of the ACA.

The survey of more than 1,000 likely voters by Hart for the group Protect Our Care was conducted June 11 to 17 following the action by Republican state attorneys general to challenge the constitutionality of consumer insurance protections like the ban on refusing coverage or charging higher premiums to Americans with pre-existing conditions.

The poll, which is the latest to show growing support for the ACA, and its consumer protections in particular, shows 66% of voters disapprove of the Trump Justice Department’s move and nearly half, or 47% of all voters "strongly disapprove" of the lawsuit gutting the ACA's consumer protections . Only 11% strongly approve, the survey shows.

It's the individual market, those with small businesses under 50 people etc. that have to deal with being turned down for having a pre-existing condition. When you have Medicare, or work for a large company, you don't get turned down.

For many, they'll never be in that position, so they are apparently incapable of empathy.

Even if they have no empathy for other folks, they might take a moment and imagine losing their current insurance. Every condition they ever had or ever will have will not be covered.

I ran into one on a local news comment board who insisted he'd always be able to pay for his own medical care, sans insurance. No amount of "what if?" arguing seemed to change his mind.

Are they medical billing companies, are they physicians or hospital executives, who the fuck other than profiteers would think this is a good idea? So someone born with a bad heart could never get insurance coverage, anyone who had cancer in the past could never get coverage? This is just sick and shows how anti-human they truly are. They want us to have no coverage and die young so we can be replaced by more ignorant people who will work for next to nothing and then die before their wages get too high.

I worked with insurance companies when they fucked up for almost 20 years, they too are generally vile and disgusting and willing to let people die to save a penny. I can't tell you how many appeals we had to file to try to remedy their treachery.

about losing in the midterms. Dems will win if we stick with reinstating the full ACA and repealing the tax scam. If prices go up due to tariffs, etc the GOP is looking at losing votes. Boo Hoo!
