Millions couldn't be bothered to get informed let alone get off the ass vote. So this is what they get and they deserve. Sorry that those who are not in the Malania camp and really do care are going to suffer. The only thing that personally affects me is the grand kids and just what kind of future they will have. ... and it's gone viral.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/photo-85-year-old-ruth-bader-ginsburg-planking-going-viral-justice-kennedys-scotus-retirement-news-123751787.html

Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announcement that he will retire from the Supreme Court this summer has been met with excitement from conservatives, dismay from liberals, and concern over how the senior associate justice’s departure might affect issues like abortion, LGBTQ rights, gun control, immigration, and more.

While the news came as a shock to many, it’s worth noting that, at 81 years old and more than 30 years into his SCOTUS career, Kennedy was already well past the age (63, according to census data) at which the average American retires. And yet the court’s go-to swing vote is still two years shy of the projected departure age for Supreme Court justices, which is 83.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, meanwhile, celebrated her 85th birthday in March — and those who fear that a Kennedy replacement appointed by President Trump would sway SCOTUS in conservatives’ favor are counting on her to stay put. In addition to being the oldest justice, Ginsburg is also one of the most liberal, and her exit before the end of Trump’s term would result in a major power shift.

Fans of the “Notorious RBG” have two reasons to be optimistic that that won’t happen. Firstly, Ginsburg is still five years younger than the oldest-ever justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., who stepped down in 1932 at age 90. Secondly, she’s fit as a fiddle — at least according to this still from the 2018 RBG documentary.

Although I suspect the GOP would not have allowed her Supreme court nominations, at least it would be 4-4.

Any elected Democratic Party that confirms this appointment, no matter who it is, absolutely needs to be chased from the Party. I don't give a flying f*ck how red your district may be.

So you're willing to lose this appointment AND end up with 2-4 more Republican senators - so that when he gets to replace Ginsburg or Breyer we can't stop it by convincing a couple moderate Republicans that it's a bridge too far?

It's certainly how many of us FEEL... it just isn't politically the right decision in all cases.

Those few in red states up for grabs in November need to stay as far away from a microphone as possible until we figure out whether we can flip a couple moderate Republicans. They need to hold fast until we're certain that we can't win... then they can be let off the leash if it might make the difference in November.

and the only way to stop this BS is to get people into office and have Congress being in control by democrats basically tell the supreme court we are going to pass laws that you cannot block and that you cannot rule under from Article 3 Section 2 paragraph 1 and 2. Congress can pass laws that say that, hey supreme court not this time.................you have no jurisdiction................

This is why we need to get out and vote......................the courts matter, and ever since Reagan that have been made into a right wing agenda following the Louis Powell doctrine......................that is a fact...............

November 2018 cannot get here fast enough...........................get out and vote

Kennedy is one of the worse because he pretends to be human, where Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch have no such pretensions, they are just vile through and through and don't care if we know. They all deserve really bad things happening to them.

History has a way of overthrowing itself. There are a few possible positive scenarios: to energize the midterms (For the left it's do or die), Roberts may move towards Kennedy's position (conservatives already think he's squishy, e.g. ObamaCare), conservatives in Senate may move center (e.g. Romney), Court since Bush v. Gore is now so obviously politicized, it just may be ignored (do they really want to send an army to shut down Planned Parenthood?). As we saw this week, when the dam is broken, they have no idea of the flood they will be up against.

Moderate compared to the other four, but still more likely to want to be replaced by Republicans than by Democrats.

He might put her up for nomination despite her age. Maybe he figures she gets the title for a year, she retires, then he gets to fill that seat again before he's out of office.

134. Plan your exit strategy
Wed Jun 27, 2018, 04:34 PM
Jun 2018

It's time to start planning your exit strategy. I'm planning mine. There is the old quote "Why would you want to join a club that doesn't want you?" and now it's time. Plan well, plan for the long term because they are playing the long game on this one and at this point America is done. No joke folks, no more hope for Mueller or the blue wave. Done. Putin, the Kochs, the Mercers, McConnell, etc. - they won. It's just stupid to be thinking otherwise at this point.

Explore your options and push your boundaries - unless you want to live under the latest version of the Nazi regime.

Never hurts to make sure that passport is up to date, or to explore whether you have any family overseas that you didn't know about.

You are correct, the Wall can be used of all sort of atrocity enforcement. As a sailor of many years, an option for some who know how to sail might be selling their house and buying liveaboard, bluewater sailboat. I know many people who have done just that, long before our country collapsed, but now it should be considered an option by those who can sail. Just a thought.
