A new Kaiser Family Foundation poll poll finds that 67% of the American public do not want the Supreme Court to overturn the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision that established womens constitutional right to abortion.
The poll finds a slim majority (53%) of Republicans would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned, while large majorities of Democrats (81%) and independents (73%) would not. Similar shares of women (68%) and men (65%) want Roe v. Wade to stand, but among women of reproductive age, three-quarters (74%) want Roe v. Wade to stand.

(37,648 posts)It decides cases based on the laws, the Consitution, rights of citizens, interpretation, preceding case decisions, etc.
And what the voters on the right SAY they want is different from what they DO. If they vote for candidates whose goal is to wipe out choice, that is what those voters WANT, despite what they say in a poll.

(28,270 posts)It doesn't mean shit what the people want in this country and hasn't for a long time.
Majorities want legal pot, affordable or single payer health care, decent paying minimum wage jobs, clean air and water, the rich to pay their fair share in taxes, no babies locked up in cages by Trump's ICE etc.
And guess what? The fucking GOP government doesn't give a DAMN!
Trump and Pence WILL DELIVER to their fanatic religious right the death of Roe, count on that!

Funny how among some, it isn't a issue until they realize this will actually hurt them.
I guess we will see in November just how serious the voters are

(23,387 posts)The only women directly affected will be those without the means to travel to states (or countries) where it's legal.
So, no reason to riot coast-to-coast.
Trump's mistresses, the mistresses of well-to-do evangelicals, they're covered because they can travel.

(29,244 posts)to make it illegal to travel to another state or country for the purpose of having an abortion.
And I predict they are going to pass laws to punish women who obtain abortions... even women who live in states where it is legal to have an abortion. If those women move or travel to those states, they can be expected to be arrested for their "illegal" acts.
Remember that the anti-abortion nut jobs believe that abortion is murder, and the guilty parties are both the women who have them and the doctors that perform them.
The President they elected has stated this in an interview with Chris Matthews.

Youre right about Trump, although he rarely really knows what hes saying when he says it

I wonder how many lady-friends' abortions has Cheeto personally paid for? That would be an interesting statistic. Not that it's anybody's business, but it would demonstrate how little concern he has for the Pro-Lifers.

(10,956 posts)Polls come out more pro-choice when there's recent news of a real threat to abortion rights (as that makes it more of a "real" issue than a philosophical/rhetorical issue to some people), so I would expect a poll taken soon after the A. Kennedy retirement news to be even more pro-choice than this.

(11,949 posts)The Democratic Party supports the right of all Americans to make their own health choices including when to terminate a pregnancy. States it in our platform.
The republicans state otherwise in theirs. So if someone, even a democrat make an anti-Roe comment on DU they are posting republican talking points and their post would be hidden.
They are welcome to post on other subjects and as long as they are members of the Democratic Party and only vote for democrats they are welcome here. But I doubt you will see m(any)

Next remove maternity leave.
Then any aid for women with children is removed.
Now a woman taking time off is fired and a white male takes her job. Women are powerless once again. They need to rely on a man.
Mission accomplished!

Under FDR, just the threat alone straightened out the Supreme Court - stopped ruling against the New Deal!

(101,424 posts)"will you vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?" That way, they can just say "I voted for a judge who'd be true to the Constitution blah blah blah", and let the Supreme Court take the heat, who don't have to give a toss what voters think. The states where Republicans have comfortable majorities will ban abortion and get away with it.

(12,165 posts)Any judge that concurs with an opinion repealing Roe is committing bad behavior against the body autonomy and right to privacy of women. For this reason, he could be impeached and forcibly removed from the bench.
Article 3 [of the constitution] mentions good behavior of judges, without defining it. According to the Congress.org website, produced by CQ-Roll Call Group, this is taken to mean that the reasons for impeachment of a federal judge aren't limited to criminal acts.
