Warren hires Iowa aides, including top Sanders and Obama alums, ahead of visit

Source: CNN

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who announced on Monday that she is exploring a presidential run, is quickly assembling a robust and experienced team to lead a campaign in Iowa -- an early signal of the outsized importance of a strong showing in the state.

Emily Parcell, who worked as then-Sen. Barack Obama's Iowa political director for the 2008 caucus and as a senior adviser to Hillary Clinton in the state eight years later, has signed on with Warren, along with Janice Rottenberg, according to two sources. Rottenberg was an Ohio organizer for Clinton in 2016 and ran the Iowa Democratic Party's coordinated campaign during the 2018 midterm elections.

Former Obama aide Tommy Vietor called Parcell's hiring a "huge, huge get for Warren."

"She's one of the best political staffers I have ever worked with and knows everyone in Iowa," he tweeted on Wednesday.

Compare to Gov. Jay Inslee that Chris Hayes had on earlier. I'm sure he is just as passionate about the environment as Elizabeth is about issues, but he can't sell it.

Treasury Secretary, Fed Reserve Governor or Labor Secretary in a Dem administration. She gathers facts, does research and makes decisions based on that information. She'd dive into the details and we'd get excellent policy recommendations that start to level the playing field between the haves and have nots. She might be to the next Dem president as Harold Ickes was to FDR working behind the scenes to implement change.

However, I recall her intro at the 2016 DNC by Joe Kennedy III. He described having her in class and how she called on him when he hadn't prepared and essentially embarrassed him in front of the entire class. He was able to profit from that as a life lesson learned, but it demostrates how she could well be viewed as kind of "school marm" teacher, professor or boss we've all had at one time or another. IMHO, that part of her personality will turn off a fair number of voters.
