Trump to visit U.S.-Mexico border amid shutdown stalemate

Source: The Washington Post

By Felicia Sonmez January 7 at 12:07 PM

President Trump will travel to the U.S. border with Mexico on Thursday, the White House announced Monday.

The visit comes amid the continuing government shutdown and Trump’s insistence that any funding bill to reopen federal agencies include $5.7 billion for his border wall.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced the planned visit in a tweet Monday.

“President @realDonaldTrump will travel to the Southern border on Thursday to meet with those on the frontlines of the national security and humanitarian crisis,” she said. “More details will be announced soon.”

Make sure the section of border you visit has the see-through kind of wall, Dough Turd.

President Trump wants to address the nation about the government shutdown on Tuesday night, and later in the week plans to travel to the southern border as part of his effort to persuade Americans of the need for a border wall — the sticking point in negotiations with Democrats who are eager to reopen shuttered agencies.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about a request to television networks to carve out time for an Oval Office address. A person familiar with the request said the White House had asked to interrupt prime time programming on Tuesday.

The shutdown is in stalemate; he schedules a prime time national presser; and visits the border two days later.

My bet is this is when he declares a state of emergency. My biggest question is who will be the first to challenge this in court and will it go straight to SCOTUS or stop at a federal court first? 2nd question - will Gorsuch and Kavarape show themselves to be the total Russian asset suck-ups I believe them to be? Will John Roberts stand up for the constitution or his party? I'd say it's 50/50 with Roberts and 100% for Alito, Gorsuch, Kavarape and Thomas. Roberts should be smart enough to know that if they let this stand, our whole constitution could be in jeopardy. Does anyone think he'll stop at building the wall - I sure don't. Think he'll make it a crime to say or print anything bad about the presidency, and codifying that the president can't be held liable for any illegal acts, even treason, before or after he's in office.

#'s of people immigrating illegally here is way way down, there is no caravan parked at the border with thousands of bad hombres, there are no bales of drugs being heaved over the already existing walls, it's all total made up BS. The only thing in crisis is drumpf's 3- year-old-like temper tantrum tantrum.

I understand that migrant facilities are kept at a very low temperature as punishment for migrants daring to ask to come to this country. One baby got pneumonia after that experience. Maybe Trump should experience migrant treatment himself. Pneumonia for him would be a bonus!
