A man who allegedly chased juveniles who were throwing eggs at cars, leading to a crash fatal crash in Houston on New Year's Day, has been charged.
Christopher Lopez, 48, was indicted by a grand jury on one count each of manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a release from the Harris County District Attorney's Office on Monday.
Police have said Lopez, whose car was among those egged by a group of three juveniles, allegedly flashed a semi-automatic handgun at the group of youths and chased the GMC Acadia SUV they were driving.
The fleeing juveniles drove through a red light and slammed into a Ford pickup truck, killing its driver, Silvia Zavala, 45. She was a single mom who was out running errands when she was killed. ... Lopez, who was allegedly driving a tan 1970s Lincoln Continental with a white leather top, did not stop at the scene of the crash, authorities said.

(55,445 posts)did they *really* deserve to fuckin' die just for egging some cars??
Instead of being a grownup Lopez had to brandish his steel against some frightened unarmed losers because he evidently can't feel like a man without it

(24,476 posts)another innocent driver died. The eggers, who were 15 and stole dads car, are just fine.

(35,390 posts)They died because the kids ran a red light.
Between the egging and the deaths other crap happened that has to be acknowledged; the kids made decisions that apparently never existed or don't have to be admitted to in some people's worldview.
That denies them personhood.

(37,748 posts)There's zero plausible reason to get mad at your car getting egged, except for being an idiot.
Idiot pulled a gun, and it all went downhill fast from there.

OK.

(27,850 posts)I had a friend who had to represent (through his family law practice) kids who were dropping rocks on cars from a highway overpass; no one was killed, but there were accidents. This is a case of two wrongs, well, three - how did the dad have it so the car was available to a 15-year old?
This is all horrifically sad and maybe there are levels of blame, but a person died because a bunch of other people made bad decisions.

(3,145 posts)If these juveniles hadn't been out committing criminal acts they wouldn't have encountered this guy nor recklessly sped and plowed into an innocent woman's truck, killing her.
Guy shouldn't have overreacted and pulled a gun but, to me, 99% of the blame for this tragedy rests with the teenaged driver and his crew.

(7,540 posts)That's vehicular manslaughter.
The reason they ran a red light is they were being chased by a freak with a gun, which has to add up to some type of assault with a deadly weapon resulting in death. Involuntary manslaughter at minimum.
That doesn't excuse the kids or the pursuer. They are all wrapped up in the chain of events leading to the victim's death.

(3,145 posts)I'm not sure I could convict him of much more than something like menacing for pulling the gun and the chase. On the other hand, I'd have zero problem in finding the teen driver guilty of felony murder.
The entire chain of events that led to this woman's death was set off by a bunch of asshole youths who decided to go out and get their kicks by committing criminal acts.

(3,145 posts)He killed another person and threw his life away at 14 for just so he and his homies could get their laughs.
I hope her family sues the fuck out of these juveniles parents.
