Wilbur Ross to testify before House panel in March over census citizenship question

WASHINGTON Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross will testify before the House Oversight Committee in March, when he is expected to be questioned about efforts blocked last week by a federal judge to add a question on citizenship to the 2020 census.
The panel said Tuesday that Ross would testify voluntarily on March 14. The committee has previously requested documents from Ross on the matter and said it expects full compliance with all of our outstanding document requests prior to the hearing.
Ross is the latest member of President Donald Trumps cabinet to come under congressional scrutiny. Democrats, who took over control of the House earlier this month, have pledged to investigate several current and former members of the administration including Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker and former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
A federal judge in New York last week blocked the Trump administration from asking about citizenship on the 2020 census, saying Rosss decision to add the question was an egregious violation of the law.
