Starbucks' Schultz May Not Decide on 2020 Until at Least Midyear
Source: Bloomberg
Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz may not decide on making a independent run for president until this summer or fall and will only be a candidate if he sees a plausible way to win the White House, an adviser said Tuesday.
Schultzs announcement that hed consider a 2020 bid outside of either party drew a furious reaction from Democrats, who warned that hed draw votes from the partys eventual nominee and assure the re-election of President Donald Trump.
"He 100 percent will only run if he sees a viable path. Theres no chance he gets in this race if there isnt a path," Bill Burton, a former aide to President Barack Obama who recently joined Schultzs political team, said in an interview Tuesday.
Burton said it may not be until "summer or fall" when Schultz makes a decision. By that point the frontrunners among the wide field of Democratic contenders may become clearer.

I'm hopeful our folks are smart enough to see through this hostage taking technique, but I'm afraid we still have any number of overpaid "consultants" from the bygone era of Sensible Centrism who will do enough talking in the ears of the money men and the DNC to make the situation troubling.

i understand that money is no object, but the votes of real people are very hard to buy. for what? because he promises to cut my little social security check?
i think he pulls votes from trump, not from dems.

(22,205 posts)even negatively impact any of the democratic races? I'd also say and I may be wrong here, but if he runs as an independent, I'd say his chances of pulling votes away from rump are just as likely as pulling votes against some democratic candidates, but if we have a strong democratic set of candidates, and there are lots of good people, I'm not worried.
We have strong and viable candidates. I am amazed at the quality and number of folks stepping up to the plate and putting themselves out there as possible candidates. Seems like one year, we couldn't think of anyone that would be a good counter to rump's running again for 2020.
We have an amazing united front for the most part ... even rump admitted this (the cohesiveness of the democratic party). We have many shepherds of the democratic party (Obama, Biden, many others) that can lend a strong and viable counter to rump and his excesses. And there is us, all of us...

(1,568 posts)If he wants to try to be president then he should get into politics at a lower level for a bit and then run as a democrat if that's where his politics fall. If this guy runs and manages to help get Trump reelected, then I will never drink another coffee from starbucks. Which totally would impact them because I'm certain I'm at least 80% of their business based on the number of SB receipts I have on the passenger seat of my car.
