Schools, mail on ice amid Minnesota's statewide deep freeze

Temperatures dozens of degrees below zero kept Minnesota frozen in time in a manner of speaking Wednesday morning, with students from pre-K to post-doctorate having a day off and mail delivery canceled.

As of 8 a.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) reported temperatures in the upper 20s below zero throughout the Twin Cities area with windchill readings in the low minus-50s.

The NWS’s office in Chanhassen proudly posted on Twitter a photo of a digital thermometer and declared, “We officially hit -30F in our office!”
