Sen. Cory Gardner says he will endorse Trump for re-election
Source: Axios
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) told the Independent Journal Review Wednesday that he will support President Trumps 2020 re-election bid, saying its the right thing to do for Colorado.
"Look, Ive made it very clear that where I agree with the president, we will agree or where I disagree, we will disagree. But Im going to fight like hell for Colorado ... I know what Kamala Harris and I know what Bernie Sanders will do to Colorado, and thats why Ill be supporting the president."
Why it matters: Gardner, a "Never Trump" Republican who opposed Trump in 2016, is one of the most vulnerable senators up for re-election in 2020 in a state carried by both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Maine Sen. Susan Collins, another vulnerable Republican who cast the decisive vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh last year, told IJR she's not ready to say whether she will endorse Trump.

(11,258 posts)Trump will be toxic in places like Colorado in 2020. It may help Gardner with his primary, but it's likely to be an anchor in the general.

Any strong Dem contenders?

(102,561 posts)are more.. (even some like Cary Kennedy who have already put their name forward).
There is no shortage of potential challengers, political watchers said this week. However, four names are on top of most lists: Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran, former state Sen. and gubernatorial candidate Mike Johnston, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter and Gov. John Hickenlooper. https://www.denverpost.com/2018/11/14/cory-gardner-senate-re-election-democratic-challengers/
I think Perlmutter is most likely, though if Hickenlooper took it on, I think he'd be very strong (and yes, his fracking policies while governor annoyed me too).

Just want to turn CO bluer and bluer... we still have our share of Trumpsters and RW fundy nuts, but those hoards of California newcomers are largely a good counter.

(62,287 posts)All because of the apolitical left who shit on Obama throughout his term. Udall was a great candidate, but Cory pulled the "gun grabber" propaganda and Colorado has enough rural people for that to be an issue. Also happened around Sandy Hook and Udall was appalled about it, so it made him look like he was after the guns.

(34,661 posts)with the massive turn over in Aurora residents to mostly well educated and not attached to Buckley, yes it is looking a lot better. Have a daughter who keeps tabs on this issue. El Paso county is now in play. The Springs, well that is mired in the Bible Belt and with the Academy and its spinoffs is still a Red Spot.
