It's so cold in parts of the Midwest, they can't deliver beer

(CNN)Ice cold beer is great. Frozen beer is not.
That's why, with a historic deep freeze gripping the Midwest, beer deliveries are on hold in some parts of the region.
Temperatures are so low that beer will freeze -- around 32 degrees or slightly lower, depending on alcohol content -- on the trucks before it can be delivered.
Kegged beer in trucks froze Tuesday, before temperatures even reached their coldest.
"Most of the folks up north are not delivering," says Mike Madigan, president of Minnesota Beer Wholesalers Association. "Most distributors are not delivering in the Twin Cities, down south and out west."
In Minneapolis, the temperature Wednesday hit minus 26 degrees, with a wind chill of 53 below zero.......................

I had stocked up prior to the deep freeze--but did not know about the possibility of NOT delivering the brew!!

(67,782 posts)That's a serious problem in the Midwest. They take their beer seriously out there.
Way back in the 1980s I worked for a company that sold industrial valves to manufacturing plants, among them breweries. While in Milwaukee visiting a Pabst brewery, they took us on a tour. Along the way they gave us some statistics about beer consumption in the US. At that time, 40 years ago, the average American consumed 7 gallons of beer a year. In Milwaukee it was FORTY NINE gallons a year, seven times the national average.

He tells me to eat less and stay off the bourbon and wine as much as possible.
But a few beers wont hurt me! Says he drinks a lot himself!!

(14,501 posts)Worked field service for years in Wisconsin for mills and power plants all over the state in the 90s. On one paper job, we were almost done with the work and I wanted to work a few hours on Saturday to finish up.
Me: Could you come in for a while on Saturday to wrap this up so I can fly home a day early?
My maintenance dept. helper: No, I really can't. I've got some important beer drinking to do. It's been a long week.
(this guy was such a good helper, I honored his needs and finished up on Monday)

(67,782 posts)....all workers were permitted to drink as much beer on the job as they wanted. It seems that when you're working around beer all day you're not all that attracted to drinking it during the day.
