Booker: I will be 'looking to women first' for potential running mate
Source: The Hill
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who announced this month he is running for president, said Tuesday he would prioritize finding a female running mate if he is the Democratic nominee.
Booker told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow that while he does not want to box himself in, he would be looking to women first as his pick for vice president.
The New Jersey Democrat is running in a primary field with unprecedented diversity, with six women already running for president as well as multiple candidates of color.
You will rarely see a Democratic ticket anymore without gender diversity, race diversity, Booker told Maddow, noting that he wished there was a female president right now, referring to Hillary Clinton.

(12,001 posts)I mean, it would be tough to say, "I really tried to find a woman, but I just couldn't find anyone as good as mister so-and-so."

(20 posts)I really liked this guy when he first gained national recognition, but he's done everything he could possibly do to come off as a phony. Why even say something like this? It seems condescending and forced. I don't like the idea of women being given consideration for positions of leadership just for the sake of PR, especially when there's plenty of women who are far more qualified for than he is and deserve the opportunity just based on their credentials. Are we supposed to fall over ourselves for King Man because he's promising the throw a bone to women?

(6,414 posts)Seems like he's pandering to me. Why not look for the best running mate? If it's a woman, great. If it's a transgendered midget with a mohawk, great.
