Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) slammed discussions of her appearance in the media during her State of the State speech earlier the week, calling them "way out of line."
"Boys have teased me about my curves since 5th grade," the new governor tweeted. "My mom said hold your head high and dont let it bother you. That @Fox2News story was way out of line. Im tough, I can take it."
"In my speech I was encouraging people to see the humanity in one another in this cruel political environment. In an era when so many women are stepping up to lead, Im hoping people will focus on our ideas and accomplishments instead of our appearance."
"Until then, Ive got a message for all of the women and girls like mine who have to deal with garbage like this every day: Ive got your back," she concluded.

I am so proud of Gretchen Whitmer and thankful I had the opportunity to vote for her. She is one strong woman and she's got plenty of work to do to fix the disaster that Snyder left, so I highly doubt she'll give this another thought. What a great role model for her girls.

Rethugs just like calling Dems ugly because it makes them feel like big men.

I remember joking to my wife that none of the little brats bashing her looks would have ANY clue what to do with her in the bedroom lol. As if she would ever even give them the time of day anyway!!!

A local Fox television station claimed it was defending the governor against sexist attacks online.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer responded on Thursday to a story produced by a local Fox news station that highlighted sexist comments about her appearance, calling the piece way out of line.
After Whitmers first State of the State address on Tuesday, Fox 2 News in Detroit ran a story about her choice of attire, claiming that people posting on social media were focused more on her dress than on her speech. The story highlighted particularly offensive comments about her dress and body, citing comments on the stations Facebook page below a livestream of her address.
Reporter Erika Erickson interspersed more reactions to Whitmers appearance from unidentified individuals in and around a gas station before adding commentary from a psychology professor about the double standard that women in leadership positions face.
