NY, NJ sue IRS for info on nonprofit-donor disclosure shift

Source: Associated Press

By JENNIFER PELTZ 2 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) — New York and New Jersey want to know how the Internal Revenue Service decided to stop requiring donor information from certain nonprofit organizations — among them big political spenders.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal filed a public-records lawsuit Monday against the tax agency. The suit comes as Montana and New Jersey are challenging the policy change itself in a separate case.

The new lawsuit seeks records that could shed light on the reasons behind the change, which the states worry will hamper their own work as nonprofit watchdogs.

“My office depends on these critical donor disclosure forms to be able to adequately oversee nonprofit organizations in New York,” James said in a statement Monday.

I cannot understand why so many people can't see what is going on, the corruption this administration has brought into our government has no end.

I urge US citizens who have never been outside of the country to talk to people from Venezuela, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Cubans who fled Castro's regime, and if you can talk to them individually you will find a parallel in their stories, the methodology is always the same, corrupt and evil people work the same, they all seem to show incompetence, but in fact their work behind the scenes to dismantle government, to change the laws is quite impressive, but they work sort of in stealth mode, and when people wake up? its because they have been hit with a hammer on their heads, all the time the went around saying "It can't happen here" creates a shock to discover that in fact "It did happen here".

I wish I knew how to wake people up, there has to be anger, there has to be action to stop the chaos that is coming if nothing is done. The more frustrating part of all this is, like in other countries, the opposition is also sleep, they don't seem to grasp the urgency to execute the rule of law and get the crooks out of office.

I can almost guarantee that Barr is already working on investigating and criminalizing people from the opposition, I believe we are going to see some indictments coming from Barr, his level of corruption is mean, very evil, and for what I see, he will stop at nothing to force his way through to help the administration become a regime.

accounting for the failure of most US citizens to recognize the danger, in addition to ignorance and indifference, is that the structure of government that most citizens interact with is robust enough to function on some level for a while before the system breaks down.

Also, Americans think "it can't happen here--this is the USA, best country ever," blah blah blah. Little or no knowledge of the outside world and all of the examples you point out where the same thing has happened with ultimately disastrous results.

Republicans have been working for decades to weaken and destroy the US government. People have become used to things not working very well and it feeds into their propaganda-driven anti-government anger.
