London mayor on state visit: UK 'shouldn't be rolling out the red carpet' for Trump
Source: The Hill
London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Friday slammed President Trump ahead of his state visit to the United Kingdom next month, saying Trump is not in the same class as presidents who made such trips in the past.
Of course we should have a close relationship with the president of the United States, but we shouldnt be rolling out the red carpet; we shouldnt have a state banquet, Khan said during an interview with LBC, a British talk-radio station.
History tells us only two presidents have had a state visit, Khan said, referring to former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
President Trump is not in the same class as those two, added the London mayor, who has openly feuded with Trump in the past.

(4,962 posts)I would invite the Obamas for an official London visit at the same time as the orange ones visit. Roll out the red carpet for them and see who has the larger crowds.....would make runt the orange pustule into a raging gasbag.....Of course the Obamas have way too much class to actually do that....but I can dream, can't I?

(1,480 posts)I wouldn't put Bush in that class, either. He got the literal royal treatment because of his relationship with his pet poodle, Tony Blair. As I recall, the visit was full of faux pas, including the trampling of the palace gardens by his helicopter.
