Judge rules against Trump in lawsuit to block Democrats' subpoena for financial records

Source: CNBC

A federal judge ruled against President Donald Trump on Monday in a lawsuit to block a subpoena from House Democrats for information about his finances....

In a hearing in May, the president’s lawyers argued that the Democrats’ actions fell far afield of Congress’ legitimate oversight functions as a legislative body. But Judge Amit Mehta questioned that argument, suggesting in the hearing that many historic congressional investigations — including the Watergate probe — might be considered invalid by the standard Trump’s lawyers were asserting.

Accounting firm has 7 days before it must produce those records and they will.

They better hurry and demonstrate why an appeal is necessary or is likely to prevail or that producing these records would cause serious harm to the parties involved?

I think the judge addressed and kinda squelched the successful appeal route.

What's frustrating is that SCOTUS in Bush v. Gore decided counting votes in Florida amounted to irreparable harm warranting an injunction.

and thus, that factor favored the grant of a stay. However, there are three other factors that are considered when deciding whether to stay a decision pending appeal and all three (likelihood of success on the merits, balance of equities and public interest) all counseled against granting a stay.

That being said, it is not outside the realm of possibility that an appeals court might give more weight to the irreparable harm factor and grant a stay pending appeal, particularly if the appeal is scheduled to be briefed and argued on an expedited basis.

If you think the Trump-Russia story is over, you haven’t been paying attention. Michael Flynn is & was perhaps the primary figure in this whole ballgame. We’re in the early innings still.

This is a turning point in history. The continuance of this democratic republic is under enormous threat. Autocracy hates democracy. We need all hands on deck to resist peacefully. The alternative is unthinkable.
