Amazon allegedly threatened to fire employees for speaking out on climate change

Source: CNET

The accusations come soon after Google fired four of its activist employees.

By Ben Fox Rubin

Several Amazon employees say they've been threatened with termination for talking publicly about their climate change campaign.

Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, an activist group within Amazon that started in late 2018, said in a statement Thursday that four of its members were targeted by the human resources and legal departments at Amazon for speaking out publicly, including to the press. In two cases, employees received followup emails threatening firings if they continued to talk publicly, the group said.

In the group's statement, several employees called out the company for trying to quiet them.

"This is not the time to silence those who are speaking out," said Maren Costa, an Amazon user experience principal designer who says she was threatened with termination for talking to The Washington Post, which is owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Just because he's leaving the Washington Post alone doesn't mean he's a good guy. Far from it.

I think I typed too many words in the previous post... they should just be taken down.

We have been conditioned to think that convenience means everything and that we should be willing to pay all costs to have it yet never looking to see whether we are having an extremely negative impact on everything else.

all you have to know is that he thinks a better use of his billions is funding flaky space travel schemes rather than treat actual living people decently.

Here you are, a coddled and untaxed mega-billionaire, thinking about the deteriorating planet Earth. What to do?

1. Help fund the search for a solution to climate change by paying taxes for a change.

2. Believe some hare-brained scheme for interplanetary travel that will take you and your useless spawn to another planet to "save yourself"

I'm beginning to think that Musk and Bezos are banking on #2.

They apparently have no conception of how the entire planetary ecosystem functions as a whole to sustain all life, including human life. You can't just load up 2 of every one of Earth's billions of species onto a space ark and plop it down on Mars.

By myriad regulations related to climate. Threatening employees is still wrong and illegal, though.

about protesting and making statements as long as

1) you do it on your own time
2) you do not create the appearance that you are speaking for your employer.
