Tehran, Iran (CNN)The military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader said Sunday that his country's response to the killing by the United States of one its most influential commanders will certainly be a military response "against military sites."
In an exclusive interview with CNN in Tehran, Hossein Dehghan, the military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, said: "The response for sure will be military and against military sites."
Dehghan, a former defense minister, is the main military adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and is very close to the Supreme Leader.
"Let me tell you one thing: Our leadership has officially announced that we have never been seeking war and we will not be seeking war," Dehghan said.

(12,449 posts)If Iran opts for this, they will quickly lose, they are no match for the US military, their Navy is a joke, their Air Force is practically non existent, their infrastructure would be pummeled by drones and missiles.
Cooler heads in Iran need to re-think this and hopefully ratchet down the tension, because we all know the Mango Menace is just itching to strike Iran hard.
Please Iran, don't do this, you are a country full of rich history, don't give the Mango Menace any reason to wipe out your beautiful country and your wonderful citizens.
Once again, couldnt agree more with your thinking ........

Our ships and carriers are no match for them.
Hassan Nazrallah in Lebanon was livid in his televised speech. I am expecting first action to come from them.

Our Tomahawks can hit Iran from hundreds of miles away without putting our ships in reach.
You greatly underestimate the striking power of the US Navy, while I think Iran is under no illusion of what our Navy and Air Force can do to their country.

Iraq on steroids. We lost the occupation of Iraq, just like Vietnam. We would lose in any attempt to maintain an occupation of Iran.

(5,586 posts)The Yakhont missile was introduced in 1987, over 30 years ago, and has since been replaced in the Russian inventory, while they still export it to their allies. The Russians themselves are investing heavily in a new sub-sonic anti-ship missile for their military going forward.
Because these missiles are so fast, their flight path is very predictable, and they are less capable of terminal evasive maneuvers right before impact. It's one reason the US has stuck with the sub-sonic Harpoon anti-ship missile.
If the Yakhont's are not decoyed by countermeasures, the US Navy can shoot down them down with the SeaRAM missile at medium distances, and the Phalanx CIWS system in the terminal approach phase. A naval unit with a carrier air wing has even more options to fell the incoming missiles. Another problem is quantity of these missiles deployed. These missiles were designed by the Russians to be launched in mass, with hundreds of missiles employed in an attack. Lebanon bough 72 of these missiles
These missiles are also huge. They weigh over 6,000 lbs and are 30 feet in length. That means we know exactly where they are at all times before they are launched.

(549 posts)Iran may huff and puff, but they will be able to do nothing. I've been taking the we're-about-to-go-to-war postings with a BIG grain of salt.
