James Murdoch Slams Fox News and News Corp Over Climate-Change Denial
Source: Daily Beast
Rupert Murdochs younger son and his wife issued a rare public rebuke of the familys media empire and its promotion of climate-change skeptics during Australias bushfire crisis. In a long-simmering rift between factions of the Murdoch family over climate change, Ruperts younger son, James, and his activist wife, Kathryn, are attacking the climate denialism promoted by News Corporation, the global media group, and also by the Fox News Channel overseen by James older brother, Lachlan. Kathryn and James views on climate are well established and their frustration with some of the News Corp and Fox coverage of the topic is also well known, a spokesperson for the couple exclusively told The Daily Beast as wildfires rage in Australia. They are particularly disappointed with the ongoing denial among the news outlets in Australia given obvious evidence to the contrary.
The extraordinary public rebuke from Kathryn and Jameswho is the CEO of Lupa Systems, a private investment company he foundedcomes as Australia has been ravaged by the worst fires seen in decades. The blazes have claimed 27 lives and destroyed thousands of properties across multiple states, with an estimated 1 billion animals feared dead. News Corp Australia dominates the countrys media landscape, publishing more than 140 newspapers and employing 3,000 journalists in print, broadcast, and online.
One longtime News Corp executive, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, described the comments by James, who continues to sit on the board of News Corporation, and Kathryn as an intentional attack on Lachlan and Rupert. They are pissing inside the tent and thats unusual. Its evidence of how high tensions are within the family over climate change. The majority of people who work here agree with James. We are hoping this may be the tipping point, the exec said.

(36,544 posts)I wish there were a way to charge the oil companies, News Corporation, and the Republican Party with crimes against humanity, for their lies and obstruction on the climate crisis and seize their assets to start a global fund for climate change. We'll call it the Thunberg Fund, just to goad the deniers.
The future generations that are not going to look kindly on us are not our great-great-grandchildren, they are our grandchildren. Those future generations are here, now.
Andrew Romanoff, one of our democratic challengers to Senator Cory Gardner, has put out a 4 minute dystopian ad, showing a world where temps in the 120s are not unusual. It starts with the voice of a little girl who is living in a dark bunker and can't go outside because of the temps and air quality. She says she misses the sunshine most. He's taken a lot of criticism, and the ad is waaaaaayyy too long, but the first 30-45 seconds have impact.

(5,803 posts)Murdoch and any compliant heirs will be forever known, together with the 666kook666 brothers, as the major propagandists and liars responsible for delaying response to climate change. Their names should be on par with other great evil megalomanics of history.

(59,594 posts)Does James have a controlling interest "News" Corp or Fox or Sky?
Does he have the power to fire managing editors, change directions, hire more reporters or do anything at all regarding how these companies cover news or provide information?
No?
Then this is me criticizing Queen Elizabeth for her taste in handbags - pointless, useless and tedious.
