NSA finds major security flaw in Windows 10, free fix issued

Source: AP

The National Security Agency has discovered a major security flaw in Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system that could let hackers intercept seemingly secure communications.

But rather than exploit the flaw for its own intelligence needs, the NSA tipped off Microsoft so that it can fix the system for everyone.

Microsoft released a free software patch to fix the flaw Tuesday and credited the intelligence agency for discovering it. The company said it has not seen any evidence that hackers have used the technique.

Amit Yoran, CEO of security firm Tenable, said it is “exceptionally rare if not unprecedented” for the U.S. government to share its discovery of such a critical vulnerability with a company.

1. What would you bet the NSA 'discovered' the flaw while using their own backdoor?

The NSA probably has Microsoft incorporate backdoors in all their products just so they can access data if necessary. It is to keep you safe don't you know.

Something about this exploit gives others access only they want to have.

Yes, today, January 14, 2020. No more patches, fixes, not even for security flaws. People with Windows 7 are now fair game, and no, anti-malware etc. from Norton or whoever does not patch problems in the operating system. Edited to add: and anyone telling you differently is pulling your leg. Just because you have been running an unsupported operating system for years and haven't been hit yet doesn't prove anything.

5. I run Malwarebytes and Wisecare on all my computers. I have one running XP, one running

Vista and one running Win 7. Both programs function well on all these operating systems even though
Microsoft and Firefox no longer support XP and Vista and soon Win 7. That's all that counts with me
and I'm fine with it. As far as I'm concerned Malwarebytes rocks and lets me be confident that I'm
protected no matter what.

3. Pretty sure that's not the right headline...

More than likely it's....

NSA convinces major tech company to put surveillance back door into every copy of windows in existence.

The NSA doesn't just give out stuff like this.

There's a reason.

And it isn't to protect us.

And yes I just officially joined the tinfoil hat club ... but trump owns the person who runs the nsa. And russia owns trump.
