Trump: Saudi Arabia paid the US $1 billion for more troops. Pentagon: Eh, not quite.

Source: vox.com

Trump seemingly announced a major deal during his latest Fox News interview, but officials are walking it back.

By Aaron Rupar@atrupar Jan 14, 2020, 1:20pm EST

............Trump’s comments immediately raised questions: Into which bank account did Saudi Arabia deposit the $1 billion? What exactly are US troops doing over there? And did this transaction even happen, or was the president just making stuff up?

Days later, we’ve learned a bit more about what Trump was talking about. And it seems the president, as he often does, was exaggerating.

In a statement to Vox, Pentagon spokesperson Cmdr. Rebecca Rebarich said, “The Department of Defense has engaged Saudi Arabia on contributing to US activities that support regional security and dissuade hostility and aggression.”

But the statement did not specify whether any sort of financial transaction took place — on the contrary, it said that “discussions are ongoing to formalize these contributions.”

Here’s Rebarich’s statement in full:..................

..............Trump’s comments came during an interview in which he bragged about war crimes, told blatant lies about the FBI, and said he feels no obligation to publicly detail the intelligence underpinning his decision to approve a military strike against an Iranian official that brought the country to the brink of war....................

Exaggerating?? heck no! Trump outright LIED as usual.

"Any of those remarks from the mouth of the president would’ve likely generated a major scandal in a previous era. But three years in, Trump has normalized gaslighting and authoritarian rhetoric to such an extent that this interview with Ingraham barely registered as a blip on the news radar."

The Pentagon and Treasury Dept can show what they have received.

What cannot be shown is what Trump stole.

That's exactly the point and that underscores the point that Trump's entire bombastic show is a methodical, gradual conditioning of the public for his will to power and plans to be the dictator of America. If you can't do it military style, you have to slowly erode the body politic, poison the institutions and subvert the rule of law.

Now ask yourself, is he, (and the sycophant minions) doing that? Will that change your perspective on the intentions of the ridiculous tweets, seemingly idiotic behaviors and decisions, lies, etc.? They may very well be targeted to both breakdown and dissolve the system AND deflect from that at the same time.

That's exactly how confidence men work. Consider the pool shark who comes in and plays a few games like he just learned how and then you start betting and he bets a little, loses some games, and then starts upping the ante and eventually cleans you out. That's Trump to me. There is more to him than meets the eye and he has a plan and its really bad.

I want to note an observation. It is only my opinion.

Do you remember that not long ago Trump was on TV giving a speech about the Iranian situation and he was panting, slurring and mispronouncing words? Well, I watched him at his rally a few days later, (because of that) and he was perfectly fine, looked much better and rambling away with his stories. His demeanor was completely different and he showed none of those signs from what I watched.

I was wondering just how much of SHOW he puts on for us to confuse and stir the public? He might well be a sort of chameleon and that would not be obvious unless you started to pay more attention. However, insiders might be aware of that, and notice who's inside now?

as he draws his next breath. On second thought, he lies much easier than he draws his next breath. He's been wheezing and playing the nose whistle a lot lately. I really don't think Dr. Bornstein was correct in his assumption, "If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency." Of course "The Donald" wrote that assessment himself and forced Dr. Bornstein to aver to it's authenticity, at least for awhile. He could live to be 200 yrs' old! He won't live to see 79. He's so vain he'd probably want to be kept alive on life support forever though.

I very much remember that, back during the first visit by tRump to SA (the time when he was dancing in the sword dance thingy there,) SA pledged $1 billion for our INFRASTRUCTURE repair. They also pledged a donation of $1 million to Ivanka's "charity." Never heard another word about that.

At that time, I thought that all that money went to Donnie Two Scoops and his Trump Crime Family. I think that when he was a new pRes, he didn't have the practice or know how to hide these "gifts" very well, so he made up stupid excuses for receiving the money. But after he discovered that most people forget easily, the excuses change with less care about the justification.

Most people on this forum not only have long memories but can provide cites. I am sorry I don't have such a cite, but I at least remember that. My question is, is this that donation, or is this a brand new second billion that he is going to collect for himself?

Either way, it stinks, and I don't want to provide protection for SA and tRump's pal, that MBS guy. He's a murderer.
