Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is receiving heat after the State Department stood-up Congress one day after damning text messages showed associates of Rudy Giuliani targeted an American ambassador, according to a new report.
The State Department abruptly canceled a classified congressional briefing Wednesday that was supposed to focus on embassy security, a House aide said, infuriating Capitol Hill staffers seeking answers on alleged Iranian threats to U.S. missions overseas, Politico reported Wednesday.
The cancellation also coincides with documents suggesting that associates of President Donald Trumps personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani put the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine under surveillance, Politico noted.
The publication spoke to one House aide about the reaction on Capitol Hill.

Staff are furious, the aide said. This briefing is required by law every month, and todays was the most important weve had scheduled in a long time. The State Department has given us no explanation whatsoever.

(5,240 posts)helping 45 out at the ballot box. Outside of urban and suburban areas 45 is still overwhelmingly popular and rural people vote in way higher percentages than urban and suburban people. We forget thar 45 only needs the electoral college and red, rural states can provide him with that.

(6,235 posts)walks out of it when it comes to light that an associate of the president's lawyer was secretly engaged in surveillance of the Ambassador to Ukraine, and that her security was at risk.
Fortunately there came a point where Ambassador Yovanovich was warned to come home "on the next available airplane". Someone probably felt she was in physical danger.
No wonder Pompeo got out of that meeting. He had to know what was going on in that whole sordid affair, and he certainly didn't want to field any questions about it.
