Seattle police arrive at CHOP, take back East Precinct area
Source: My Northwest.com
Seattle police officers arrived at the CHOP early Wednesday morning, reclaiming the area around the East Precinct and dispersing protesters.
Officers were flanked by tactical vehicles, adorned in riot gear, and brandishing batons. After arriving around 5 a.m., they warned protesters to disassemble or face arrest, as well as the possible use of chemical weapons.
Police initially approached from the northern barricades on 12th Avenue. They used bicycles to force the crowd back roughly five feet at a time, removing tents and wood barricades along their way, before completely overtaking the East Precinct area.
This comes as part of an emergency executive order issued overnight by Mayor Jenny Durkan, declaring the CHOP an unlawful assembly. Police arrested over a dozen protesters who refused to leave the area.

(33,472 posts)Per reports, that 16 year old shot at the sleeping occupiers FIRST, and when he and his 14 year old companion returned for another drive-by at 3 am, the occupiers defended themselves. It's sad and stupid, but it's what Gunners all over America feel is essential: self-defense via firearms.
The CHOP became a magnet for settling pre-existing grievances in the African American community. It's demise was inevitable.
Secondly, "CHOP protestors" didn't go to the Mayor's house, that BLM march started at Magnusson Park, about 8 miles from CHOP - near my house.

Hell no.
Amassed amassing wealth is not taxed. Work is.
The CHOP thing sucked, but having the planet and it's people destroyed so a few wealthy people can get wealthier is worse.
Some are starting to get an idea of what the future holds, and are making a stand.
Good on them.

(10,956 posts)This was the city council and mayor who made all the fateful decisions that led to the loss of the East Precinct and Capitol Hill neighborhood. I have a number of friends on the force and they have been very very frustrated by what has happened. Morale is at an all time low.

Durkan ceded the streets to the protestors so the situation didn't lead to more Police violence (in a dense urban residential neighborhood) than it already had. Indeed, a celebratory mood took hold after the precinct was evacuated. It wasn't burned down, it wasn't was ransacked.
I think it was a smart move, and actually compassionate. The police chief obviously concurred. It let air out of the balloon.
Then the gunplay began, as pre-existing scores started elsewhere in Seattle and environs were settled at CHOP. At that point, the demise was inevitable.
It's not like there weren't drive-bys before, and there won't be drive-bys after.
