Kemp's ban of mask mandates puts Georgia on collision course with its cities
Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution
Gov. Brian Kemp for the first time spelled out that cities and counties cant mandate the use of masks, triggering a furious reaction from local government officials who accused the Republican of placing his political interests above their efforts to protect residents from a growing pandemic.
The governors order, signed late Wednesday, puts the state on a collision course with local leaders and public health experts who say requiring face coverings is an essential step to containing the spread of the coronavirus.
Though Kemps previous orders have barred local governments from taking more restrictive steps than the state, the rules he signed on Wednesday were the first to explicitly ban cities and counties from requiring the use of masks or other face coverings.
The governor has said he believes requiring masks are a bridge too far and that such a mandate is unenforceable. Instead, hes forcefully urged Georgians to don face coverings and warned not doing so threatens the college football season.

(8,758 posts)I have serious doubts that your rural GA Walmart employees are going to enforce a mask requirement of any kind.
These were PR moves for them and I seriously doubt they will be enforced

Honestly, upon what basis can a government force you to cover up? Moral decency? Public health?
And how are those not applicable to masks?

(2,961 posts)That will get their attention. When the Trumpster alpha-males are denied their football, attending or even watching, then maybe they will take the COVID thing seriously. I think the NFL will play, but I have the feeling the college season will not play out.
