Extensive New Battleground Polling Shows Biden Gaining Ground
Source: Morning Consult
President Donald Trump faces an increasingly daunting electoral map according to new battleground state polling from Morning Consult Political Intelligence. Trump has seen his lead evaporate in certain must-win states, such as Florida and Texas, and he doesnt hold a lead outside the margin of error in any of the 12 states included in this release.
The polling finds former Vice President Joe Biden has an outright advantage in four states Trump won in 2016: Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He also leads within the margin of error in Florida and Texas, two other states Trump carried over Hillary Clinton.
Political Intelligence is conducting daily surveys with over 4,400 likely U.S. voters across the country. The latest results are based on a 10-day moving average of surveys taken between July 17 July 26, with between 600 to 3,760 interviews per state, and margins of error ranging from 1.6 to 4 percentage points. The surveys in each state are weighted separately to reflect a representative sample of voters in that state.

(56,829 posts)But, in the days leading up to the 2018 mid-terms, the Dems were projected to pick up 15-25 seats in the House. They picked up 40.
They were projected to lose as many as 5-7 seats in the Senate, but lost "only" two - and those two - Florida & Texas - were very close.
Plus, they flipped a ton of state level seats as well as governorships in Michigan, Wisconsin & Kansas.

(2,586 posts)It has for some time seemed to me that the GOP is really due as a party to go the way of the Whigs & the Federalists. Nevertheless they show amazing resilience -- as does Trump, maintaining over 40% in almost every red state and swing state. Can't understand why such a huge proportion of the population sticks to such obvious nonsense, and the total failure even to try to live up to their own standards
It is noteworthy that with the explosion of the Covid crisis that in TX and AZ, both GOP governed states where the crisis has gone from marginal to overwhelming, there has been such a shakeup of opinion. Maybe the Covid crisis will be at least one of the developments that leads to the end of the GOP as a national party (hopefully)
If & when that happens, the remains of the GOP won't go away, they wd probably mostly glom onto the Biden wing of the Democratic Party, while the relatively progressive wing (including me) wd hopefully get our act together enough to gain the upper hand within the party in lots of blue states. Clearly the collapse of the GOP (possibly with a much smaller protofascist party emerging to pick up the disgruntled ultra-right, but unable to compete almost anywhere) cd in this scenario lead to a splitup of the Democrats
