1 in 3 Americans would refuse COVID-19 vaccine, new Gallup poll finds

Source: MSN

One in 3 Americans would refuse an FDA-approved coronavirus vaccine even if it were offered at no cost, a new Gallup poll released Friday found.

The results, based on survey conducted between July 20 and Aug. 2, found that 65% of respondents said they would accept the offer and get themselves vaccinated while 35% said they would not.

The new poll falls in line with previous Gallup findings suggesting political party preference plays a strong role in Americans’ views on COVID-19.

Eighty-one percent of Democrats would be willing to get vaccinated immediately with a free, FDA-approved vaccine, the poll found, compared with 59% of independents and 47% of Republicans.

I will discuss with my doctor before deciding on whether it is safe for me or not. My doctor years ago told me I could not get the shot for Shingles because it was a live virus several years ago. Now that they came out with a new vaccine a couple years ago that is not a live virus, I will get it.

I think they are rushing this vaccine and am worried about it’s safety. I am not against vaccines by any means, but I will listen to my doctor and see what she advises.

They are not "modified live" nor even a killed virus. The vaccine has fragments of the messenger RNA and is counting on your body making antibodies to the protein.

wouldn't serve the pharmaceutical companies to release a vaccine which wasn't effective or had safety issues

The other thing to note is that this vaccine is NOT a live vaccine. I would be a hell of a lot more hesitant about taking the vaccine if it was a live vaccine. The far bigger risk I believe is the lack of effectiveness of the vaccine, and as a result a false sense of security where people would become complacent too quickly

Peer review is a very important part of this

Hydroxychloroquine was peered reviewed, and put to sleep relatively quickly the lack of effectiveness

I believe that is the measure that will indicate the probability of its value

Regardless, if and when a vaccine is released, the biggest risk I believe will be those who believe they do not have to bother with masks or social distancing after the vaccine is released. The odds are against that it will be 90% or greater effective.

We will be very lucky if it is 75% effective

Most of the people who didn't want to take it was because they thought it will have been rushed out for political, not scientific, reasons, and they would reconsider after it had been out "a while" (meaning well after trump and his agency toadies are gone.)

any rushed vaccine put out by this administration, after seeing how Trump has put lackeys in charge of everything AND how he seems to be able to make even famous doctors cower in front of him. There's no way to trust this administration to get anything right.

That said, once reasonable and non-crazy people are in charge, I'll happily get vaccinated.

live vaccine.

Those who are arguing that trump is rushing this vaccine do not seem to grasp that it isn't trump's decision. The vaccines in clinical trials will be peer reviewed, and trump is NOT part of that peer review

The peer review regarding hydroxychloroquine demonstrated it was NOT effective, and that trump is an idiot. That some choose to believe trump over the scientific community, is their lack of critical thinking

The biggest problem I see with the vaccine is that it will not be as effective as people think, and they will become complacent

That tech is a bit new for my taste.

They’re a whole new type of vaccine

If an mRNA vaccine was approved for coronavirus, it would be the first of its type. ‘It's a very unique way of making a vaccine and, so far, no (such) vaccine has been licenced for infectious disease,’ said Prof. Bekeredjian-Ding.

Ive always believed that there will be a vaccine rolled out shortly before the election. Trump needs a vaccine. Rushed, forced out enough before the election to convince his voters its safe to show up and he saved them, but late enough that any safety or efficacy failures wont become blindingly apparent until after people have voted.

A vaccine that shows up in october is not a Vaccine I will be eager to get.

A vaccine that shows up in a less politicized timeline, and with good evidence reasonable safety and efficacy testing backing it, I very much look forward to. I can wait in line for medical professionals and other front line workers, but Id be happier to have it sooner than later.

The MAGA anti-vaxers will be confused. Do they trust their Dear Leader enough to flip their long held beliefs that vaccines are a government plot to kill them?

But then again, never underestimate the ability of Trump cultists at hypocrisy. "As long as Donny says its safe"

I had a conversation with an anti-vaxxer about this a few months ago.

She said - if YOU have the vaccine, why do you care if I don't?

So, supposedly, they would only spread the virus to each other, and not to those of us who get the vaccine.
