Republicans to meet allies of Hungary's Viktor Orbn on ending Ukraine aid
Source: The Guardian
Allies of Hungarys far-right prime minister Viktor Orbán will hold a closed-door meeting with Republicans in Washington to push for an end to US military support for Ukraine, the Guardian has learned.
Márton Ugrósdy, the deputy state secretary for the prime ministers political directors office, and Attila Demkó, a leading pro-Orbán academic, along with members of the Hungarian embassy in Washington, will on Monday begin a two-day event hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation thinktank.
Allies of Hungarys far-right prime minister Viktor Orbán will hold a closed-door meeting with Republicans in Washington to push for an end to US military support for Ukraine, the Guardian has learned.
A diplomatic source close to the Hungarian embassy said: Orbán is confident that the Ukraine aid will not pass in Congress. That is why he is trying to block assistance from the EU as well.

So, the Heritage Foundation, which has been choosing most of our Supreme Court justices, is now assisting Putin in his ambitions?

Luckily, for the most part, the majority of the House and Senate are still in favor of sending aid to Ukraine to fight the Russians illegal invasion.

I hope people read the book:

(22,247 posts)Former KY Gov. Bevin was driving some of it.
"Matt Bevin assembled an unconventional deal to invest $15 million in Braidy Industries, Kentucky's state government finally has recouped that investment after the company failed to build a promised, multibillion-dollar aluminum rolling mill near Ashland."
And:
Braidy Industries (tied to Oleg Deripaska, and now Unity Aluminum), also held Veloxint, an MIT incubated technology company, and NanoAL, a Northwestern University incubated technology company. The assets of Braidy Industries were sold to Steel Dynamics in 2022, which announced the mill will be built in Mississippi.
KY got the 15M the state had invested back. Gov. Beshear said the company has agreed to donate the 200+ acre site back to Northeast Kentucky Regional Industrial Authority. (Dem governor cleaning up another rethuglican mess.)

(9,287 posts)Reagan's March 8, 1983 speech to the National Association of Evangelicals in Orlando, Florida, is his first recorded use of the phrase "evil empire." Reagan said:
let us be aware that while they preach the supremacy of the State, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination of all peoples on the earth, they are the focus of evil in the modern world .... I urge you to beware the temptation of pridethe temptation of blithely declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally at fault, to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire
I look at the far right Orban and Putin and see them as willing to put man into a prison where their existence is solely valued in light of what that human body can provide for the state. They dont stand for free elections (the founding principle of this country was representation via election no taxation without representation). They also support and thrive on economic cronyism (the antithesis of the free market). This is the virus Orban and Putin want to spread to the US. Its outcome will be terminal to American freedom and American prosperity. It must be defeated.

What is it about Orban that makes conservatives so excited?
Simple.
He is a "strongman" trying to become a total dictator.
They love that.

(2,876 posts)with foreign sovereigns? The R's are still acting as though we have two governments in this country -- theirs and others. They do so much damage to our real-world reputation in pulling stunts like this. I do wish our Press would try to emulate the reporters of yesteryear... people like Cronkite and Brinkley. Those who actually delved into the story and brought you not only the facts, but the backstory, as well. We've lost so much over the last 50-60 years. (sigh)

(6,580 posts)who attends the closed door meeting. What is their plan of action? So, a foreign autocrat's reps come to town to arrange a take down of Ukraine's foreign aid. Well, we should have expected more of the same when Orban came to town to address that convention, and was praised by Trump.
We need to get a package for Ukraine together asap. I know they are getting something, but a strong showing of support would go a long way.
I think Germany is stepping up until we resolve these issues. Meanwhile, it sure is something to see the Repubs consort with reps from Orban. I guess they couldn't outright meet with Russians, so a middleman country would have to do. I think they are all traitors, willing to sell us out.
And now they are compromised. I'm sure names are taken. And pics.
This is similar to when Trump met with those Russians behind closed doors in the WH.
