Trump Shares False Claim that Nikki Haley is Ineligible for President
Source: Meidas Touch
On Truth Social, Trump reposted an attack on Nikki Haley from far right website The Gateway Pundit questioning Nikki Haley's eligibility to become president based on citizenship. Trump's post was merely a screenshot of a tweet promoting the article. The tweet claimed:
"In Nikki Haley's situation, reports indicate that her parents were not U.S. Citizens at the time of her birth in 1972. Based on the Consitution as interpreted by Paul Ingrassia, this disqualifies Haley from the presidential or vice-presidential candidacy under the 12th Amendment."
The AP fact checked this claim circulating from MAGA accounts ahead of the Iowa caucus. Law professor Geoffrey Stone of the University of Chicago points out that Haley, having been born in South Carolina ...is clearly a natural born citizen, without regard to the fact that her parents were immigrants.

(62,498 posts)he wants to totally, utterly destroy any opponents. He wants them crushed and their lives totally destroyed so their names never mentioned in public again.
that is an aspect of Trump that few ever speak about. His objective is to totally ruin whatever or whoever he sees as his opponent.

(45,689 posts)Only the dumbest MAGAts believe there's an unwritten whites only clause in the US Constitution. Even DeSantis claimed 14th amendment doesn't apply to anyone after the civil war ended when former slaves became US citizens.
Sometimes misguided DUers repeat this sort of nonsense, especially during recessions. But we're in labor shortage now.
This has nothing to do with where a person is born or their parents' citizenship at the time of birth. It's about white supremacy.
TexasDem69
(1,910 posts)Haley is clearly eligible because she was born in South Carolina. Someone born outside the U.S. to non-U.S. parents is not eligible. Not sure why you call it a whites only clause cause it isnt that.

They want Thor for a president - but might instead get a Depends-wearing Jabba-the Hutt.

(45,689 posts)even if a person is born in the USA to a US citizen mom, they can have a fake birth certificate if half black like Barack Obama. Hawaii is an overseas territory of the Republic of Kenya for these racists.
I was born in the USA to 2 US citizen parents yet I become "foreign" during every American recession including COVID. The US constitution doesn't have a whites only clause, it's just made up in the minds of white supremacists who want to disqualify the competition on the basis of race.

(2,285 posts)And there is some question re Trump's mom's trip to Scotland the year he was born. He seems mighty defensive about the whole natural born citizen thing. Can't help but look at that thru the lens of his projection tendencies.

(11,165 posts)Any person born in the US is a US citizen under the Fourteenth Amendment. Any person who is a citizen at birth, i.e., not a naturalized citizen, meets the requirement of being a "natural born" citizen.
That may be not be what the MAGAt crowd thinks the law ought to be but absent a constitutional amendment, the language is clear.

(50,609 posts)...is Trump's criteria for picking advisors is still "does this person tell me what I want to hear?"
The whole "natural born citizen" (which she is, sorry Paul) thing ISN'T EVEN IN THE 12th AMENDMENT! It's in Article II, Section 1 of the main body of the Constitution.
Article II, Section 1 also says about presidential pay, that the president shall take "no other emolument from the United States." I interpret that to mean "you are not allowed to rent golf carts to the Secret Service." I'm not sure what the punishment for taking other emoluments from the United States while serving as president should be, but being pilloried for a week with frequent sessions of the bastinado - oh, and disqualification for public office because that goes without saying - sounds right.

Haley may be problematic as a candidate because of her politics (I think she is), but compared to Donny the loser who is ineligible because his high crimes and misdemeanors, she's certainly a better choice than Mango Jebus.
