Smith, who has brought two indictments against Donald Trump, will meet with Judge Aileen Cannon on January 31 without the former president or his lawyers present.
In Florida, Trump faces 32 counts of unlawful retention of national defense information and eight other charges that include making false statements and a conspiracy to conceal them.
He denies all of the charges against him and says they are politically motivated.
The 'ex parte' hearing on January 31 pertains to objections filed by Trump lawyers in which they have asked for access to documents that are off-limits because of sensitive information.......................

(3,565 posts)But the original post used the present tense meets and I took it to mean on this day - not in the future. it wasnt will meet. My mistake Hope she doesnt mess things up for Jack Smith.

"meets with Jack" is so much shorter than "to meet Jack".

(110 posts)Mr. Smith lets the MAGA judge understand the rule of law applies to judges too. If the feds discover she's breaking the law, she can, may and hopefully will be prosecuted.
If so, let's see how much Cannon loves her Deadbeat Daddy.

(14,904 posts)Among our nations most closely guarded secrets is how they were described last year. Judge Aileen should know by now that Trump is a traitor. If that doesnt make any difference to her regarding the classified documents, it means shes a traitor, too.

(4,242 posts)conclusion that whatever is said or learned will "somehow" immediately find it's way to the lawyers for the Orange Ruski. Maybe "I Lean" has some idea how that might happen. or maybe after holding the ex parte the lawyers for the Orange Ruski will demand that charges be dropped due to the ex parte having happened and "unfairly" disadvantaged them. "I Lean" would of course be the judge to hear that motion and might well grant it. That's how convoluted this fairly straightforward matter has become.

This hearing shall be conducted on a sealed, ex parte basis in a facility suitable for the discussion of classified information contained in the Special Counsel's Section 4 Filings 236 . The Court reserves ruling on Defendants' Motions for Access to CIPA § 4 Filings pending the February 2024 CIPA § 4 hearings and review of Defendants' forthcoming CIPA § 4 challenges. (42,703 posts)Trump moved that same day to gain access to the motion. The Special Counsel took the full two weeks allowed to respond to Trump's motion (on December 20) and Trump filed his reply on December 27.
Not sure how that works out to "months" of delay, particularly since the Special Counsel at no point pushed to have the issue resolved expeditiously.
Cannon is a terrible judge, but in this instance the Special Counsel hasn't pushed for a quick ruling.

Like "we have evidence that you have been in contact with Trump's operatives, and if you value your career and your freedom you will stop fucking around. Or else."

(42,703 posts)He'll address the issue that the meeting was called to address: whether the CIPA 4 motion should be considered ex parte. In fact, Smith himself may not attend the meeting. He might send one of his deputies. On January 30, Smith filed a notice that Deputy Special Counsel J.P. Cooney would be appearing in the case.
