Reggae singer claims Arizona concert was canceled to 'silence' his pro-Israel stance
Source: AZCentral
A Matisyahu concert scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson has been canceled due to what the venues website calls safety concerns and staff shortages.
The notice went up a few hours before the show was scheduled to begin, saying, We will always prioritize the safety of our employees and our guests. We are in the process of refunding all ticketholders. We apologize for the late notice of cancellation.
The show will go on, though, at a new location.
Matisyahu is doing a free show tonight at The Rock, 136 N. Park Ave., Tucson.
The concert is limited to "the first 300 people," Matisyahu said in an Instagram story.

Some may miss the importance of this story.
Imagine a concert being canceled because the artist is Black, or Queer, or African, or Latino.
People would be up in arms.
But two shows are canceled because the artist is Jewish.

(8,795 posts)ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. As the situation in Palestine intensifies, more and more New Mexicans are calling for a ceasefire. Since Oct. 7, 2023, we have seen countless protests and events in the Duke City and beyond.
The latest action took place at the University of New Mexico Thursday morning. Students walked out of class and demanded the Board of Regents call for a ceasefire.
This is just the latest call to action in the state. On Wednesday, Meow Wolf canceled controversial musician Matisyahus concert after they were flooded with calls from activists because of his strong support for Israel.
Zionism is a form of racism, and we are fighting against racism for everyone, that is why there are tons of Jewish people as a part of this movement. We are working side by side against Christians and Muslims and Catholics, said Alex Mcdonough, who is a member of New Mexico Jews For Free Palestine.

(955 posts)This is especially common in Jamaica. I don't know if that is the reason, but I know there is a history of it. There often is violence involved. But something tells me this isn't because of Israel.

(11,121 posts)His shows were targeted by Pro-Hamas protesters. So yes, it was because of Israel. Whether it was censorship, threats from protesters, staff refusing to work, it ultimately was because Matisyshu is a pro-Israel Jew.

(955 posts)I mean, I know there are many divisions/sects within, and it has a complicated history. But I also know that yes, they have been persecuted. There is a common conspiracy among the fringe far-right Christian Nationalist groups in that a lot of the Jews teach Kabbalistic (mystic) teachings, which they see as the devil's teachings. So I can't rule out one of those.

(955 posts)What I said is their words, not mine. You better believe that it isn't just Hamas. Many of what was fringe about a decade ago is now mainstream. I know full and well that these Christian Nationalists believe in many of the same conspiracy theories.

What will happen when someone gets killed at one of these confrontation demonstrations? I fear it is only a matter of time. The amount of hatred and calls for violence against the Jews might even exceed that of the beginning stages of nazism. And I believe it is more public and out in the open.
I've never really outwardly identified as Jewish. I'm definitely in the spiritual, not religious, camp, or have been. The only time in recent memory I've been to any Jewish events has been at weddings and funerals.
I've been to the left of liberal since I was a teenager. DU has been a quiet home almost since its inception. Now, many of the posts I read here are subtly or blatantly dripping antisemitism. Same on other social media. I do fear for the future.
