Judge Cannon Calls Special Counsel's Proposed July Trial Date 'Unrealistic'
Source: Meidas Touch
During a status conference in front of Judge Aileen Cannon today, Donald Trump's attorneys and the Special Counsel requested stark difference in their proposed trial dates, with the Special Counsel requesting a July 2024 date and Trump's attorneys asking for a date after the November 2024 election.
Trump's proposed date in court contrasted with a filing his attorneys made earlier this week where they asked for a August trial date. In the courtroom, Trump's attorneys noted that the August date was merely for evidentiary hearings, not for the actual trial, citing the fact that Trump will have other criminal trials to worry about this year and that he will have to focus his time on the campaign trial in advance of the 2024 election.
After listening to arguments from both parties, Judge Cannon did not set a trial date yet, but did note that the Special Counsel's July date was "unrealistic" and, according to reports, seemed partial to the arguments made by Trump's attorneys. Importantly, however, the Special Counsel explicitly took the position that the Department of Justice's 60-day rule, which advices against taking investigative steps close to an election, would not apply in Trump's cases given the fact that he was already indicted before the 60-day period. This would allow a trial to move forward even if it began within months of the November election.
All eyes are on Judge Cannon's courtroom heading into the summer after the United States Supreme Court decided to consider the issue of presidential immunity, thereby pushing Trump's D.C. criminal trial until at least this fall. We will provide you with updates every step of the way. Stay tuned for more.

(4,274 posts)2 years down the road from when the Archives requested help getting the records back and about 10 months post indictment and she literally has not moved to schedule hearings on most of the pre-trial motions. On a case that is not complex in what is charged. Did he have the documents in his possession? Yes or no simple answer. Did he fail to turn over documents subject to the search warrant? Yes or no simple answer. Did he take active steps, including using others, to conceal his retention and movement of documents despite having given assurances that he had fully complied with the search warrant? Yes or no simple answer.
"I Lean" is so very obvious now in her conduct. Even if trial started tomorrow can you imagine her conduct and rulings from the bench? She would make the Russian courts look legitimate in comparison. Smith needs to move on getting her off this case. Use this latest crazy ruling she made knowingly endangering witnesses and others and showing no regard for the ample evidence of intimidation of witnesses and others by this defendant in his other cases.
I think it no coincidence that she was "randomly" selected for this case.

(18,669 posts)It is not an excuse from court dates.
If it was, every two bit felon would file to run for state senator or county commissioner.

(316 posts)Into how the most incompetent, inexperienced and biased Judge was chosen to preside over such a historic trial. The notion that it was a random selection process is total BS.

(1,820 posts)😒. Recusal shouldn't be voluntary, it should be mandatory for all judges with conflicts of interest including the Supremes.
If we survive as a democracy, someone needs to come up with a better way to put judges on the bench, other than what we have, given we now know how partisan and broken it is.

(643 posts)... that this treacherous woman can be removed from the bench and disbarred? THIS is why politicans shouldn't be allowed to touch ANY judicial appointments with a barge pole! Judges are supposed to be impartial. Judge "Loose" Cannon doesn't even try to mask her blatant partisanship, never mind her jaw-dropping incompetence.

(17,087 posts)Why not tell this scumbag to go where turds go when you flush the toilet? Then go 100% with judge Chutkan and get the trial there SET! Why let Cannon mess Chutkans trial? That's what i'm not understanding?
