Trump again mixed up Obama and Biden during Virginia rally speech

Source: Business Insider

Mar 3, 2024, 6:13 AM EST

Former President Donald Trump appeared to mix up President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama again during a rally speech in Virginia.

"Putin has so little respect for Obama that he's starting to throw around the nuclear word. You heard that. Nuclear. He's starting to talk nuclear weapons today," Trump said on Saturday night.

The crowd went silent as Trump referenced Obama, who has not been in office for seven years.

Trump has repeatedly mixed up Obama and Biden on the campaign trail, prompting questions about his age and mental capacity for office. He has committed other gaffes, including at one point mixing up his GOP rival Nikki Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Haley responded by questioning whether he was "mentally fit" to be president after he made the mistake.

He will never get over that shellacking that President Obama handed him. Nothing I enjoy more than seeing somebody, in this case metaphorically, knock a bully on his ass. Especially when we have the way Trump has conducted himself as our worst national disgrace as president, he certainly was deserving of that treatment then, now, and always as by now we all know what a very, very evil person he is as described by John Kelly, former chief of staff to this awful person.

retaliating for all Trump's birther nonsense. Obama was young, physically fit, athletic, very smart, AND a winner. Trump can certainly dish out the insults, but he can't take it when they are addressed at him. It is Obama who sticks in his craw, not so much Biden. The only way he could hate Obama more was if he was a woman.

but before it was announced to the public, and IIRC even while they were still waiting to hear the results. He left the situation room, put on a tux, knocked it out of the park, then went back to the situation room. (I imagine.)

Talk about cool under pressure! So much to admire about Obama.

He's mixing up people because he forgets where he is. That's why he forgot his wife's name. At that moment he's forgotten that part of his life.

Notice that he wasn't aware of his error after he did it. A normal person would likely have caught the error and corrected it immediately.

It's not that he makes the error. It's that he repeatedly makes the error and doesn't immediately correct it. It's not a joke, it's not a repeat of a common right wing meme. It's mixing up and forgetting people.

All you got to do is look at previous interviews to see he use to be so much better. He's losing his ability to communicate.

36. It's dementia
Mon Mar 4, 2024, 07:52 AM

I saw it in my Mom. Doctors will tell you that people with dementia obsess over something stressful that happened previously in their lives. For my Mom, it was when she was a child during the Depression. Her family couldn't afford to feed everyone so she was sent to live with an aunt and uncle for a while. In her 90s she was obsessing over it like it was yesterday.

So with the orange motherfucker, it was being humiliated by Obama on the national stage, cameras zooming into him to see his expression. He hated that a black man was president in the first place and he hated Obama for being everything he could never be (including RESPECTED), but that humiliation was the last nail in the coffin. He ran for president as revenge, only he wasn't running against Obama then and he isn't running against Obama now. But he's fixated on that humiliation, so he thinks he is.

This is not a purposeful mistake. With his thin skin and all the talk about his cognitive decline, if it was a purposeful mistake he'd have quit it long ago, lest people still call into question his cognitive abilities. No - he thinks he's running against Obama because he can't let go of his humiliation.

Ever see pictures of the cult members in the crowd? Some look horrified at his obvious decline.

like one of Mitch's "moments", ON CAMERA!

Someone who cares for him, family or whoever, needs to take guardianship right now. He is NOT going to get better. He is NOT going to come back to where he was in 2016, or whenever you thought he was functional. I say this as a former caregiver for my mother's father and for her when each in their turn went this way.

He is in a very serious decline, as a number of well qualified people have said. The stress of his legal situations is certainly making it worse, but his condition is such that the train has left, and he is not on it, and this is a condition of rapidly diminishing function.

At some point a responsible judge, if not a prosecutor, is going to be moved to say in whatever legalese applies that there is a serious and responsible question as to whether he is competent. That day is much closer IMO than many realize.

If Judge Cannon were a more responsible and more functional judge we'd also have a different situation because the case would have been finished by now. Trump, along with facing the actual crimes he's done, would not be able to pretend he's immune from the rules he doesn't actually understand.

AND someone else would also see that. Many someone-elses (spelt MAGA).

The MSM and the GOP are in major denial about Trump's candidacy, his personality disorders, his genuine treason, his material, existential threat to our democracy and the whole world, and now his abrupt mental decline.

29. We have that issue too

I was just informed by a reliable liberal that Joe during the announcement of some Gaza relief airdrops kept misplacing Ukraine with Gaza twice. I don't mind, it clearly shows he is really focused on Ukraine and wishes he could do more to help and that is probably his main focus, but it will be a gotcha and a "what-about-Biden" going forward. We have to be careful and focus on pushing policy issues and how the GOP are against most every American, as well as hammering how shitty T45 is now and how bumbling the T45 administration was. [edit] I know T45's actual dementia and Joe's getting briefly mixed up twice aren't at all equivalent. But the issue is that we have to pick off some votes from the other side to make up for any vote losses over the carnage in Gaza, which is being widely condemed.

Ok, I decided to verify

Biden twice mixes up Gaza with Ukraine in aid announcement
Joe Biden mixed up Gaza with Ukraine twice during his announcement that the US will airdrop aid to the territory desperate for humanitarian assistance.

The US president, 81, referred to airdrops to help Volodymyr Zelensky's nation in a speech on Friday, 1 March, but White House officials later clarified his comments were referring to Gaza.

"We are going to join with our friends in Jordan and others in providing airdrops of additional food and supplies into Ukraine and seek to continue to open up other avenues into Ukraine, including the possibility of a marine corridor to deliver large amounts of humanitarian assistance," Mr Biden said.

I.e., getting Ukraine funding passed through Congress and push for an Israel/Hamas cessation of hostilities to get aid to the civilian population.

Where 45's stumbles are unrelated to any actual governmental decision-making.

As the other side is more hype than substance and unfortunately we have to dumb down our arguments. I focus on the size of the two big spending bills and all the work that is getting done, and second I draw the comparison that a guy who was supposedly a builder couldn't even schedule his own "infrastructure week" for his entire term.

I struggle with that every morning, I really have to concentrate!

Joe is 6 years older than me, and has a whole raft of concerns to think and talk about.

He is doing just fine. With his experience and his ability to form a competent team around him, he is good to go for another term.
A third one, perhaps not.

The clock is ticking for him (and everyone else), he deserves a few years of sitting on the back porch watching the grass grow and the birds fly by. Sitting with a cool drink on a warm day, or rugged up on a cold day.

Trump though . . . banish the thought of 4 years of Trump in POTUS revenge mode.
