Steve Lawrence, Grammy-Winning Pop Stylist and Actor, Dies at 88
Source: Hollywood Reporter
Steve Lawrence, the charismatic Grammy- and Emmy-winning crooner who delighted audiences for decades in nightclubs, on concert stages and in film and television appearances, died Thursday. He was 88.
Lawrence died in Los Angeles of complications from Alzheimers disease, publicist Susan DuBow announced. He partnered with the late Eydie Gormé, his wife of 55 years, in a very popular act.
With his boyish good looks, silky voice and breezy personality, Lawrence broke into show business when he won a talent competition on Arthur Godfreys CBS show and signed with King Records as a teenager. The singer chose to stay old school and resist the allure of rock n roll.

(129,740 posts)Love love love "Steve and Eydie" and I *know* he missed her. They were such a fantastic duo.
R.I.P. and thank you for so many decades of your music.

(4,222 posts)It was produced by their son and was very entertaining. I had forgotten how good their voices blended together and how gifted each was individually. I never knew Eydie spoke several languages and had her share of hits on Spanish language charts.

(1,616 posts)I saw that PBS show. The only time I hear them these days is when I listen to Internet radio around Christmas. They were in that great tradition of Jewish people making great Christmas music.
I recently saw a clip of Eddie Murphy on Kimmel talking about going to Sammy Davis Jr.'s house for movie night back in the day. He said "everyone was there. Steve and Eydie were there..." They were iconic for sure.

(3,447 posts)especially Steve. He could definitely keep up with Carol, Harvey, and the rest when it came to comedy.
They had the most beautiful voices. They will be missed.

I can't remember if it was at The Sands or The Desert Inn. It was back when each Las Vegas hotel wasn't a Mega-Resort.
I'm old.

And didn't it seem like he and Eydie were on the Sullivan show almost every week.

But I imagine most of the country did as well.
Steve sang so effortlessly. What a voice!
