Merrick Garland isn't to blame for delays in Trump's election interference case - MSNBC / EmptyWheel

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Yonnie3 (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: MSNBC

By Marcy Wheeler, legal and national security journalist

After the Supreme Court delayed consideration of Donald Trump’s immunity claim until April, some liberals directed considerable outrage not just at the court, but also at a member of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet. Such attacks act as if the delay were Attorney General Merrick Garland’s fault instead of justices like Clarence Thomas. These criticisms are misplaced. The Justice Department, before and after Garland’s delayed confirmation, started investigating key figures in the election interference case against Trump in 2021. And accusations of delay ignore the real-world obstacles that special counsel Jack Smith, his team and their predecessors had to navigate carefully — lest the whole case fall apart in court.

It doesn’t satisfy one’s desperate craving for recreational outrage.

Good scapegoats are hard to find, what will folks do now that Garland has been TOTALLY EXPONERATED?

Clarence and Ginn must of made him come over to the house and wash and detail the motor home, do a little yard work, shine some shoes, draw Ginn's bath for her......

...I've read more than one defense of Merrick Garland by professional journalists over the topic of Garland moving too slow to prosecute Traitor Trump, but I guess they either didn't make it to the voluminous critics, or those critics chose to ignore the facts.

Regardless, the criticism never seemed very fair to me, but I couldn't counter the near-constant moaning and groaning over Merrick. I gave up trying.

But this column is yet more evidence that there is often more unseen than seen. We certainly are not privy to the same level of intelligence that Garland is aware of, nor are we aware of all the challenges and obstacles that the DOJ faced in bringing charges against Trump.

So, thanks for posting. Maybe a few of the Garland critics will take this one to heart and dial back the venom. Venom directed at Garland is, as Wheeler claims, misplaced.
