Trump is set to finalize his RNC takeover, installing a key ally and his daughter-in-law as leaders

HOUSTON (AP) — Donald Trump is set to complete his takeover of the Republican National Committee on Friday when GOP officials vote to install the former president’s hand-picked leadership team — including his daughter-in-law Lara Trump. Michael Whatley, a North Carolina Republican who has echoed Trump’s false theories of voter fraud, is set to be elected the party’s new national chairman in a vote Friday morning in Houston. Lara Trump will become the co-chair.

Trump’s team is promising not to use the RNC to pay his mounting personal legal bills. But once the leadership changes are finalized, Trump and his lieutenants will have firm control of the party’s political and fundraising machinery with limited, if any, internal pushback.

Whatley will carry the top title, replacing longtime chair Ronna McDaniel after she fell out of favor with key figures in the former president’s “Make America Great Again” movement. But he will be surrounded by people closer to Trump.

Lara Trump is expected to focus largely on fundraising and media appearances. The functional head of the RNC will be Chris LaCivita, who will assume the committee’s chief of staff role while maintaining his job as one of the Trump campaign’s top two advisers.

I like where Trump's team is promising not to use RNC money
to pay his legal bills. That's funny, right there.

and was accused of looking the other way when it came to the lavish spending. So in this case, it won't take long....

Trump came in and insulted them all. Then he got their nomination. And somehow managed to win. I still am perplexed by what happened in 2016. Then he pretty much ran the most incompetent Presidential administration in modern history. It's not even close really. But he delivered what they wanted. Two things: a crazy tax cut to corporations and wealthy people and the Supreme Court. He pretty much fucked everything else up.

He losses his reelection. He refuses to accept the results. He gives a hate filled speech that results in a storming of the Capitol. He tries to strong arm various states to not accept the state results. When he leaves office he takes a moving truck full of classified documents with him. The only way we get them back is through a search warrant. He gets indicted for both the illegal possession of classified documents and for illegally trying to overturn the state results in Georgia.

In the midst of criminal indictments he decides to run for president again. The only people to opposed him is an equally crazy governor and another former governor. That's it. No one really from the mainstream of the party tried to oppose him. And now he is probably going to be the party's nominee. And he is going to install his DIL as the chair of the party.

How the fuck does this happen? Where are the people who have built the Republican Party over the last 40+ years?

and will take circumstances like this and try to get some advantage out of them for themselves.

I.e., we always say that they are "party over country" but in reality, they are "THEMSELVES over EVERYONE ELSE".

He installed family members in the WH when he became pRes. So, this seems like the behavior of a mob boss. If I were the RNC--thank G-d Almighty I am not--I would make plans for the "After The Death of the RNC." If he weren't planning to raid what's left of the piggy bank, he wouldn't be interested. I think he solved his half a billion dollars problem, on paper at least, but if mega donors are willing to pour in millions to save the RNC, Donald has his eyes on it.

I think they all deserve what's coming their way. I want him to spend their money. They might as well start thinking of themselves as part of Donald Trump's Crime Family. His taking over their institution is ominous and a signal to them to make up their minds. Those that don't want the likes of Donald Trump to ruin their lives should quit. Let them do whatever people like that do. Imagine waking up one day to discover that you work for Putin. Surprise! But, you knew this was going to happen.
