Trump wants to pause civil lawsuits over Jan. 6 until his entire criminal case in D.C. is finished

As the floodgates open on civil liability over the violence of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol Complex, former president Donald Trump intends to launch a full court effort to close them. Early Friday morning, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia allowed three personal injury lawsuits—and various other consolidation cases—against the 45th president to proceed.

Late Friday, attorneys representing Trump in those cases filed a notice saying they intend to file a motion to pause the proceedings pending a resolution of his entire criminal conspiracy case over the Jan. 6 riots. That notice, mentioned in a joint status report – a filing detailing discussions between the various parties in legal controversy and signed off on by all sides’ lawyers – in the Thompson v. Trump case, was originally reported on by New York Times journalist Alan Feuer.

“President Trump intends to file a Motion to Stay all proceedings in this matter no later than 14 days from today,” the notice reads. According to the filing, the 45th president will argue that he is entitled to pause all of the Jan. 6-related lawsuits against him until his criminal case in the federal district is over due to the recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to hear Trump’s arguments on criminal immunity.

“The issue of presidential immunity is a key issue at this stage in these proceedings,” the filing reads. “Indeed, this case cannot move forward with respect to President Trump until this issue is resolved.”

This too will be turned down. He tried this several times already and was told no in very explicit terms. Ford_Prefect Mar 10 #1
However, he can continue to try it and that will delay things. Scrivener7 Mar 10 #4

There is no legal or procedural basis to do so which applies to him either as a civil defendant, or a multimillionaire with resources to burn on appropriate legal representation. AFAIK he is not required to be present during civil actions so long as he has legal representation. Although he must attend the criminal cases in person unless the presiding judge rules otherwise, as in his presence is disruptive.

his lawyers wasting court time on frivolous suits and endless delaying tactics. They do have say in how some of this will go.

He's completely flummoxed at how his usual bag of legal tricks aren't working against these new legal opponents. He's too stupid to realize that they're getting judges and juries to side with them all the time because they not only have evidence on their side (gee, who would have thought that would help?!), but also because they're far smarter and richer than he is. He doesn't know what else to do besides trot out the same tired old tricks he's already used, in the vain hopes that this time they'll work.

Which they don't. That only throws him off even more and makes him more desperate to find anything that will save him; however, without evidence or the law on his side, all he can do is keep cycling through the same mouldy oldies, over and over again. As he's doing here.

People who matter (judges) will tire of his antics, soon enough. After all, TSF is no Wile E Coyote who at least found new ways for trying to catch the Road Runner.
