PHOENIX (AP) ...................................
State Sen. Eva Burch, a registered nurse known for her reproductive rights activism, was surrounded by fellow Democratic senators as she made the announcement, The Arizona Republic reported.
Burch said that she found out a few weeks ago that against all odds, she was pregnant. The mother of two living children from west Mesa who is running for reelection said she has had a rough journey with fertility. She experienced her first miscarriage 13 years ago, was pregnant many times and terminated a nonviable pregnancy as she campaigned for her senate seat two years ago, she said.
Now, Burch said that her current pregnancy is not progressing and not viable and she has made an appointment to terminate.
........................
...............................
Burch said the states laws have interfered with her decision. Arizona law required an invasive transvaginal ultrasound that her doctor didnt order and she was then read factually false information required by the law about alternatives, she said.

Why bother being a patriarchal man if you can't be cruel to women you've never met, just because they're women?
And these cretins wonder why "NONE" is the largest religious group today.

(30,831 posts)Not the abortion; that's just a necessary thing. But making your private issues very public so it will increase awareness of how new restrictions are impacting women who are just trying to get through hard times, is truly living your convictions.

(16,729 posts)How appalling.
I hate to admit it, but my brain has been almost totally occupied with the horrors going on in states that have enacted total or near-total abortion bans since Dobbs. So much so that I haven't been paying enough attention to the fact that there are still states that grudgingly allow abortion but require patients to jump through invasive and medically unnecessary hoops such as Burch described.
I wonder how many states there are at this point that haven't (yet) banned abortion completely but are still putting patients though this garbage. UGH.

(22,979 posts)That these horrors are their stepping stones to the subjugation of women for any reason is something we should never allow or forget.
They want a total abortion ban regardless. This is just their way of torturing women along the way to that end.

(16,729 posts)One of their biggest mistakes, imo, is not giving women nearly enough credit for being capable of making our own decisions. They think women are so stupid that we don't understand what pregnancy even is, and when we see a blurry ultrasound of a fetus, we'll immediately change our minds about getting an abortion.
In reality, I believe the vast majority of women who choose to terminate a pregnancy know perfectly well what they are doing and why. Laws like the ones in AZ are condescending and infantilizing, and they insult the intelligence of all women, not just the ones who are personally subjected to this crap.

(21,966 posts)I find this despicable. They don't give a damn.
A sole Republican, Prescott Sen. Ken Bennett, remained on the floor while Burch spoke. When she was done, he walked over to her, expressed his sympathy for her situation and gave her a hug.

Christian tyranny is not going to stand long. Disgust with their insistence on putting religious dogma into civil law has rendered them a minority religion.
