The vote yes campaign, formally named the Committee to Keep the Chiefs and Royals in Jackson County, failed despite the teams contributing upwards of $3 million. It was managed by a former top operative for Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. The threat of the teams leaving Jackson County implied in the campaigns name hung over the campaign. But it wasnt enough to persuade a majority of voters to support the sales tax.

(5,483 posts)I think it's appalling that taxpayers need to subsidize billionaire team owners for new stadiums.
The vast majority (if not all) of these projects never return the investment the taxpayers were led to believe.
Plus the Chiefs are only putting up $300M??
That's practically a rounding error in the current NFL gold mine.
The Hunt family is worth BILLIONS. Let them pay for a new stadium.
