Biden's message to Iran about retaliatory strike on Israel: 'Don't'
Source: ABC News
President Joe Biden told reporters Friday afternoon he expects an Iranian strike on Israel to occur "sooner than later" amid urgent concerns that Iran was about to retaliate for the bombing of its consulate in Damascus, Syria, earlier this month.
Asked for his message to Iran in the tense moment, Biden was blunt, saying simply, "Don't."
"Would the U.S. respond?" ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce asked repeatedly as the president walked away after the end of an unrelated event. He paused, thought for a moment and then returned to the lectern.
"We are devoted to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed," he said.

The fallout, well, I am sure that will be interesting too.

(4,734 posts)attacked (most likely for good reason) Iranian Consulate territory which, if I am correct is considered sovereign Iranian territory, correct? Thus, wouldn't Iran be justified in some retaliatory action?
Israel knew this when it attacked and concluded the cost benefit analysis was worth it.
Why is President Biden getting in the middle of this?

Back to Iran, Israel, and the strike on the consulate in Damascus, the targets apparently were two Iranian generals. Five other officers were also killed. They were in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, which parallels much of Iran's military, similar to how the Nazi Waffen SS paralleled the German Wehrmacht. One of the generals commanded the IRGC Quds force which has the leading role in equipping and funding Iran's surrogates and proxies, the most loyal and competent of which is the Lebanese Hizballah. Quds Force has also conducted external direct action along the lines of the US Joint Special Operations Command's Delta and Seal Team Six. The Quds Force was the primary supplier of explosively formed penetrating munitions used against the US military serving in Iraq.
Israel has a long memory and while it's possible that Israel targeted them in retaliation for past actions. But since they went to the extreme step of targeting a consulate, I'd infer it's more likely that it was to disrupt current planning.

(1 post)While President Biden's commitment to defending Israel is clear, his terse response of 'Don't' to Iran's potential actions lacks the nuance and depth needed in delicate diplomatic situations. A more comprehensive approach that addresses concerns and outlines consequences may be more effective in maintaining stability in the region.

Such critics are not criticizing logically, but more rooted in finding something to criticize.
